Relax in your private garden, with a cold glass of local rosé, and admire the ancient Abbey of Gellone. Snooze on the giant 2-person hammock. And with trampoline, basketball, archery and lots of summer games equipment, your kids will be happy all day. At night, all you shall hear is the gentle gurgling of the river Verdus, as it winds its way to join the magnificent Hérault. And the chatter and songs of birds. No cars, no traffic, no stress. The fantastic river beach at the Pont du Diable (“Devil’s Bridge”) is a great place for young children to swim safely and play. And it is only 5 minutes away by free bus. A kayak through the Gorges de l’Hérault is a journey of wonder. Take a picnic with the kids and spend all day dreamily drifting along the river, soaking up the breath-taking scenery of the steep-sided gorge and cooling off in the fresh mountain water.More

Interaction with guests
You will be met personally on your arrival at the village. I will show you where to park your car (you have free parking for the duration of your stay) and give you the keys to your holiday home. I am very flexible about arrival times but please do let me know your travel plans well in advance. I can provide a shopping service for you and stock your fridge. Want cold champagne? You got it! Want French cheese and baguettes? No problem! You really can't miss your English breakfast? Haha, I know just where to buy it! Just send a message at least 3 days before your arrival with your shopping list. If you need a crib, I can have one ready for you. Just let me know if you have any special requests and I will be happy to help.

About the neighbourhood
St. Guilhem le Désert is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France ('The most beautiful villages of France”). This mystical medieval village, built in the 8th & 9th century, is situated at the end of the narrow Valley of Gellone, where it meets the steep sided gorge of the Hérault River. Vineyard and olive trees are planted in terraces on the slopes. The stunning Abbey of Gellone, founded in 804 by William of Gellone, is the centre-piece of the village and where William was buried in 812. Still a working abbey, the Abbey of Gellone hosts many musical and choral evenings during the Summer months. The village lies on the St. James's Way pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostella. To pay tribute to Saint James,
Getting around
There is a free bus which takes you the 5-minute ride from St. Guilhem to the river beach at the Pont du Diable. The bus runs every 15 minutes all day long. Wine-tasting, horse-riding, hiking, cycling, canyoning, climbing are all available nearby. Less than one hour by car are the wide sandy beaches of the Gulf de Lion and the Camargue. The natural wonder of the Cévennes National Park and the ancient city of Avignon are also within easy reach for a day trip. Montpellier, at just 45 minutes to the centre, is a vibrant city with an opera house, superb shopping and many fine French restaurants. Park under the Place de la Comédie.
