VILLA KOSTOULA is a wonderful property for a large party or family. The house itself is in a beautiful exclusive pine-wooded residential area offering complete privacy, with a choice of coves and beaches only a short walk away. The lovely secluded bays both pebbled and sandy are great for snorkelling. It is surrounded by a private garden with swimming pool and pool-side BBQ. The views are beautiful from sunrise to sunset from the pool and terraces towards the island of Spetses. A great view-point of the firework display in celebration of the Armata in September. The four bedrooms are on two floors and all have shower and w.c. en-suite. Self-catering, catering may be provided on request. Car essential and great for exploring all that the region has to offer. Airport shuttle can be requested. There is a lovely typical beach front restaurant, 12/15 minutes’ walk or 2 minute drive down the road to the small port that transfers to Spetses. Greece is blue seas, blue skies, scattered islands, white washed houses and friendly people. But Greece is much, much more. Soaring mountains, quiet roads, beautiful scenery, rare birds, abundant wild flowers, sunshine, good food and fascinating historical sites. The Peloponnese in Southern Greece, has all of these things and Porto Heli, just two and half hours from Athens, is the ideal base from which to sample them. The lively, friendly village of Porto-Heli embraces truly beautiful bays. It encompasses the endless beaches of Ververonda, sandy bays in Hinitsa and Limenakia as well as the myriad of coves and bays at Kosta and St. Emilion that face the islands of Spetses and Hydra. The village itself has a wide choice of restaurants, tavernas and nightlife. One of the nice things about the area is that you can choose to join the bustle of the village, or relax at a quiet beachfront taverna. You can water-ski, wind-surf, sail, play beach volley or tennis and much more. Or find a nice quiet cove to relax on your own. The excellent climate of this region makes it a year round place to visit. Restaurants and tavernas are generally of a very high standard serving mostly local produce picked or caught the same day and served with salad and a bottle of wine. Souvlakia and good pizza are available for fast food options. Delicacies worth trying are fresh anchovies, crisply fried and marinated in herbs and lemon, charcoal grilled octopus, deep fried squid, delicately coloured red mullet or the larger grilled fish. Local lamb tightly wrapped in paper with herbs and fresh vegetables then baked in the oven will revive the most jaded appetites. A wide variety of vegetables and salads is an essential part of the Greek diet. Many like to do some exploring while on holiday and if you want to stay close to the sea there is an abundance of islands to visits. You can start with the popular white-washed island of Spetses, 10 minutes by boat. A short walk, or drive down the road takes you to the tiny port of Kostoula, where boats take passengers over to the beautiful island of Spetses. With 24hr boat services, it is famous for its horse and carriage rides, its tasteful amigdalota and sea food, nightlife, the museums, Armata in September, Spetsathlon. The best experience is to rent a bicycle or motorbike and explore its many beaches through the pine covered road that circumvents the island. Followed by a visit to Hydra, an artist’s traffic free paradise, or drive up the coast through the lemon groves of Poros. The intriguing walled city of Monemvassia, though not strictly an island, is well worth a visit. It is reached after a peaceful 3 hours journey by excursion boat along the Peloponnese coast. It is essential to sample inland Greece. It has a mystical beauty emphasized by the constantly changing light and colours in the mountains. A day’s trip will lead to the ancient site of the Olympic Games, but much nearer are the ancient theatre of Epidavros, famed for its perfect acoustics and the ancient health sanctuary of Asklepios. In the summer, live performances take place including international productions of the great Greek classics, attracting internationally re-known actors. Epidavros can be combined with a visit of the medieval town of Nafplion, the first capital of modern Greece, then on to the ancient site of Agamemnon’s Mycenae, one of Greece’s first ancient kingdoms and famed for the gold face masks and ingenious architecture. When you don’t want to exhaust yourself too much, then just stay in Porto-Heli, in the area you will find many great walks, hidden gorges and ancient site all within a short drive. The prehistoric caves at Koilada and the remnants of the ancient town of Haleies with its underwater stadium lying within stadium lying within the port itself. The fishing village of koilada where large wood fishing ships are still constructed and can be seen in the boat yard, the traditional town of Kranidi with its labyrinthine narrow streets. Ermioni is also a nearby coastal town.
