About the neighbourhood
Ashford in the Water is a picturesque riverside village that nestles mainly on the east bank of the meandering River Wye as it winds its way slowly south-eastward towards the town of Bakewell, a couple of miles downstream. A holiday or short break will allow you to explore some of England’s most spectacular scenery; fascinating historical and cultural heritage; and in the towns, villages and hamlets – amongst the prettiest in the country – you will find a warm and genuine welcome wherever you go. The rolling hills, vast moorland and gritstone crags of the Peak District make for a dramatic and varied landscape. Not surprisingly it is a Mecca for walkers, climbers and cyclists looking for peace, tranquility and adventure.
Getting around
We have had a number of guests who have stayed at the cottage without a car and got around on public transport happily. However to get to the more remote parts of the Peak District an car - or bicycle for keen cyclists - is recommended
