Interaction with guests: Whilst we live next door, we prefer to leave our guests to enjoy the peace and quiet the area offers. So unless we hear otherwise, we assume that all is well. We are often, but not always, around to welcome guests. If we are not around, there is a keysafe so that people can let themselves in. Full information on how to get there, and how to access the house will be emailed prior to arrival.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

prima uitvalsbasis

Beautiful cosy cottage
We had a lovely few days exploring all the amazing local walks. Plenty of information available in the cottage and Sheila was always available to help out with any queries. Would love to visit again.

Comfortable home from home
We thoroughly enjoyed our return visit to this wonderful farmhouse. It is extremely comfortable and cozy. It’s in a very peaceful location just a short drive away from great restaurants, pubs and shops. Sheila is a very friendly and welcoming hostess. Thanks again. We’ll definitely be back.

Location
Lovely stay in this perfect wee farmhouse set amongst fields with the only sounds the sheep and cows. Feels remote but only a few minutes drive from the bustling seaside town of Stonehaven. We enjoyed exploring the area on foot and cycle then relaxing on the patio with views of the sea in the distance. Great to see the bats flying about at dusk.

Perfect for us
The cottage seems to be in the middle of nowhere but just 10 minutes you are in Stonehaven where you are able to get most things you need for your stay. The cottage was ideal as it has a utility room which ment we were able to get the dogs cleaned before going in to the main cottage. From there in to a kitchen diner large enough for our 2 miniature schnauzers to play in and a decent sized lounge. Upstairs were 2 decent sized bedrooms and the use of the stair gate kept the dogs downstairs. The cottage was perfect for us as a base to explore the area and Sheila had added some nice welcoming touches. No hesitation booking again.

What a great cottage. Clean & cosy "home from home" with fantastic rural views across rolling open fields out to sea. Everything you could possibly need is to hand for a self catering break. Stonehaven and Dunnator Castle is only a short drive away, we also explored further afield along the beautiful Aberdeenshire coastline up to Newburgh Seals Beach and visited Balmoral Castle in the Cairngorms. Thanks for the delicious welcome wine and chocolate tea cakes, it was very much appreciated.

Well appointed farmhouse
We booked this as a get away with friends but restriction meant that it was only us who went. The farmhouse is spacious and well appointed. Must mention how good the shower is - lovely to have a powerful hot shower! The bedrooms upstairs are big and spacious with everything you need. The lounge has seating for 5 and we were very comfortable and enjoyed the wood burning stove. Stonehaven is very close, and we enjoyed the cliff walks.

The Best Little Holiday We Have Had In A While!
West Gallaton Farmhouse is a fantastic little getaway. The farmhouse itself is comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Great for children and dogs too. Our boys enjoyed the board games and dvds. Our dogs were safe nipping out for a bedtime wee in the enclosed garden. I loved the views and the location. So close to lots of beautiful costal walks and attractions, but rural enough that we were tucked away, surrounded by fields and with sea views too. My son is epileptic, so I aways like to know we are close to help if needed, but we still want to be in rural accommodation. This was absolutely perfect for our needs. We love to geocache and we weren't disappointed with the wonderful scenery, historic sites and wildlife that we discovered along the way. The kitchen is huge, so it wasn't a problem to keep the dogs in there. I put their bed by the radiator and they were more than comfortable! The bathroom is downstairs, at the far end of the house and the stairs themselves are a little steep - Not complaints, just observations that might be helpful to others. A fantastic holiday all round.

Lovely Cottage
We stayed for 4 nights in July. We went with family it was a great wee cottage. Spacious, clean and great views. We went walks, went to Stonehaven and visited some family in Aberdeen. It was a great location for our trip. My wee boy loved it and we had everything we needed for him provided a high chair and a cot bed! It was a home from home. He loved the garden and seeing the chickens and cows and horses close by! Perfect 4 days away! We will definitely be back. Thanks Marie Baxter and family July 2019

Cosy, very nicely decorated and quiet farmhouse
We absolutely could recommend to book in to Sheila's farmhouse. She provided us a warm welcome, the location is outstandig with view to the sea and cows directly opposite the road. Very quiet, equipped with tasteful furniture and you must not be worried about rainy days because staying in this cosy house is really an alternative! We were 100% satisfied and will definitely come back again. Thank you Sheila!

About the neighbourhood
The market town of Stonehaven has shops, restaurants, pubs, playparks, indoor swimming pool, golf course, tennis courts, putting green, and a large open-air heated swimming pool. The town has a beautiful harbour which is lively in the summer with families paddling, sailing, kayaking or just sitting on the harbour wall enjoying a drink. Dunnottar castle is very nearby and there is a nice easy walk from the house along the cliffs, passed the castle, and down to the harbour. During the summer a land train operates. Events in Stonehaven include: The Feein' Market (June), Folk Festival (July), Highland Games (July), the Harbour Festival (August), The Real Ale Festival (June) as well as the world famous New Year Fireball Ceremony on hogmanay.
Getting around
As we are a rural property, a car is really necessary. However, we do have guests who choose to come without one and are happy to walk or cycle everywhere. We are right on National Cycle Route 1, and there is loads of great cycling, both on and off road. There is no public transport in the immediate area, but it is a 5 minute taxi ride into town. Stonehaven has a railway station on the Aberdeen to Dundee/Edinburgh line. Aberdeen airport is a 25 minute drive away.

How to get there
Leave the A90 just south of Stonehaven, at the junction with the A92.  After a short stretch of dual carriageway, and passing the left turn to Stonehaven, the road narrows to single-carriageway and there is a turning to the right (signposted Barras), with a black and white plastic horse on the left of the road.  Take that right turn, and then immediately turn left - following signs for Halymyres riding stables.  West Gallaton is approx. 1.2 miles along this road, on the left.
