About the neighbourhood
Within 8 kms at the village of Saint Severin there is a pleasant outdoor café and shops. Just a little further on about 7 kms at Bertric-Burre there is a superb restaurant specialising in fish Excellent supermarkets – Leclerc & Intermarche - in Riberac, 10 mins away. Verteillac, 25 mins away, also has an excellent bakery, large general store, Bank and cash machine and delightful cafes. Be sure to pay a visit to the Cafe du Commerce - serving the best 'Croque Monsieur' we have ever tasted. Bar le Calice serves a very good plat du jour Mon - Fri (about €8) as well as a selection of other dishes. There is also a bank and a cash machine. At Lisle, about 10 mins away, you will find a few small shops and bars and there is usually a Tuesday morning market selling a variety of fresh produce. L...
How to get there
The distance from Calais is 760kms and takes about 8 hours. (Calais-Rouen-Le Mans-Poitiers- Angouleme-Riberac-Vanxains). There are a number of alternative ferry companies. We have found Sea France to be very competitive. If you are prepared for a little longer drive you can use Norfolk line to Dunkirk instead of Calais. This is about 45 kms additional but if you decide to come through Paris this is no disadvantage. There are also ferris from Portsmouth to Caen using Brittany Ferries and Portsmouth to Le Havre using LD Lines. Although these are longer sea crossings, Caen to Vanxains is only 520km and Le Havre to Vanxains 550km. By air to Bergerac or Limoges we suggest Ryanair. They have a almost daily service from Stansted or East Midlands they are cheap if you book ahead. Alternatively Fl...
