As its name suggests, Bridge Foot Cottage is located at the end of a bridge, with a gritstone bound garden and river terrace giving you a ring-side seat next to the picturesque River Derwent. The property has been refurbished to very high standards while retaining a number of period features including beams and exposed brickwork. The spacious open plan living and dining area has a wood burning stove, but if you'd prefer to sit and watch the river flow by then the river room is the spot for you, with its bi-folding doors that open out onto the river terrace. In fact, there's no getting away from the river, with French windows in the morning room opening out onto the riverside garden and views of the Derwent from two of the large double bedrooms. The kitchen has stone flagged flooring along with stone mullion windows and window seats, and the central island unit is the perfect spot for sitting and chatting while preparing the evening meal. Meanwhile if the children want to let off steam, the adjacent Piggery building is a convenient games room, where they'll find table tennis and a pool table. Once you've eaten, enjoy the rest of the evening by bringing a glass of wine or cup of cocoa out onto the terrace and watching the dusk descend onto the river. Attractions and nearby amenities The village of Baslow sits within the magnificent scenery of the Peak District. You can be as energetic as you want to be in this National Park, taking a leisurely amble over the River Dove via the famous stepping stones, or tramping up a mountain. To the north is the Dark Peak, with wide open spaces, while to the south is the White Peak, with softer landscapes and lush valleys. Chatsworth House is just a walk away from the cottage. With over 30 rooms to explore, this magnificent mansion is home to some outstanding works of art, but the grounds themselves are equally as breathtaking. You may well recognise Haddon Hall from a film or two – this Elizabethan home has starred as the glamorous backdrop to many a historical drama. Hardwick Hall is equally as impressive, with its imposing frontage, huge windows and beautiful tapestries. The bustling market town of Bakewell is just a ten minute drive away. Visit the Old House Museum or walk the Monsal Trail. And whatever you do, don't miss the chance to eat Bakewell Tart while you're here! Matlock is the county town of Derbyshire, set in a beautiful location on the River Derwent and with the Peak District hills on every side. But some visitors consider Matlock Bath even more attractive. This pretty village is just 1.5 miles south of Matlock. If the young ones get a little restless looking at the local beauty spots, take them to Gulliver's Kingdom. The theme park is near Matlock Bath and as it's set on a hillside has some glorious views too. If you're a history buff you'll be fascinated by the village of Eyam. In the 17th century the villagers sealed themselves off to contain the plague from the outside world. For additional inspiration on what to do within the area, please click here.More
