About the neighbourhood
Not far from the Elan Valley with its imposing dams, this is an ideal location to explore the local countryside and wildlife. There is a population of Red Kites with a feeding station on the edge of Rhayader and wild ponies on the hills behind the house.
With plenty of footpaths and bridleways it is ideal for walking, mountain biking and pony trekking. There is also fishing along the rivers Wye and Elan and on the reservoirs. There are 2 National cycle routes which pass by the cottage.
Rhayader offers a number of good pubs, restaurants and takeaways as well as a small supermarket, butchers, fruit and veg shop, newsagents, petrol station, launderette and cycle shop with bike hire available.
Getting around
Walking is a great way to explore the local area, with Rhayader being a 20-30 minute walk away. There is a foot/cycle path leading to the Elan Valley for the more energetic. There is a national cycle route which passes the cottage and the local hills can be accessed a few hundred yards away.

Rhayader is located on the A470 and A44 cross road. Once in Rhayer head West on West St, B4518 towards The Elan Valley, the road drops down over a bridge and enters Cwmdauddwr, as you start to head up hill out of Cwmdauddwr turn right signed for Nannerth, follow the road for half a mile then turn right, again signed for Nannerth. Head along lane for quarter of a mile looking out for large tree stump with owl on it on your right. Just past it there is an entrance on your right, black circular sign with red dragon for Gwardolau House, head down track and gateway for cottage and house will be in front of you.
