The Winedrinkers Cottage was built in 1910 and shifted to its current semi rural site in the early 2000's. It is a four minute drive to central Carterton and four minutes the other way to Greytown. The owners love living in Wairarapa as much as they love a glass of wine in the evenings. The cottage is fully self contained with two queen size bedrooms, a sunroom, bathroom with shower and laundry. A full size kitchen and a deck to dine from, looking out to the peaceful rural surroundings. Carterton is known as the heart of the Wairarapa, there are many wonderful wineries in the area to visit, along with fresh and funky eateries.

My family and I stayed at the Winedrinkers Cottage in 2018 and left a review at the time. Last month I booked a night at the cottage for my eighty year old parents and their friends (my parents are in Auckland, their friends are in Wellington). Unfortunately, the stay is not going to happen as Covid has come back and we, in Auckland, are in lockdown. Lockdown is very stressful for my parents - they had booked accommodation around the North Island and now they can't go. The Winedrinkers Cottage was the first place that we cancelled that came back with complete understanding. Other places of accommodation have been less receptive. I could not recommend the Winedrinkers Cottage highly enough; both in terms of my family's stay and my parents' need to cancel. Plus, the cottage is gorgeous and cosy, and the hosts provide you with so much more than the basics. If you are wanting a place to stay between Wellington and Napier, this is definitely the place.

Great place to relax and unwind
We've just spent 2 nights here in the middle of winter, and loved this place. The owners are very generous, leaving fresh bread, bacon, eggs, a platter of meats and cheeses etc. for us on arrival. We were here for the weekend in the middle of winter, and the weather was horrible, but we were so warm and relaxed here we didn't even step outside on Sunday. It could do with one more comfy chair in the lounge area as it skeeos 4 but only has a 3 seater sofa. We moved a chair from the bedroom so we were all good. I also spent time in the lovely reading nook finishing my book. We booked to come again before we left. This is a fantastic place for a weekend exploring the Waiarapa, or for a weekend away for the business of life.

If You Want To Experience Kiwi Hospitality, Stay Here!!!
This is the most amazing holiday accommodation our family has ever stayed in. The thought to detail provided by the hosts is incredible, and they truely went the extra mile by providing home baking, wine, fruit, complimentary platter, BBQ, books and games, herbs and vegetables from the garden, breakfast supplies, and so much more. The cottage is very cute, spotless, clean and comfortable. If I could rate it higher than 'excellent', I would.

Unbelievable place
Booked here for 2 nights on our tour of the North Island. We were immediately impressed when we pulled up but amazed when we saw what was provided. So much thought had gone into making our stay as comfortable as possible , even a bottle of wine and a cheese platter in the fridge. It really is a home from home in fact we could have just taken our clothes and moved in permanently. Cannot recommend this place highly enough

The best hosts ever
We were a group of three and stayed at the cottage for two nights. From the moment we walked in we could see this place has heart. A beautiful platter of appetizers and bottle of local wine was welcoming us. There was also a fully stocked pantry and freezer with delicious home-cooked meals, which is something none of us had ever experienced before. Some high quality cooking equipment enabled us to prepare meals and enjoy he tranquil setting. Attention to detail was everywhere, including Wi-fi charger and best of all, electric blankets on both beds. We cannot recommend this place too highly. We are tempted to return for a longer stretch next time.

Slice of heaven
This is the absolute best place I think I have ever booked. On arrival there were wine and nibbles left out and more important the heating was on! It was like arriving to stay with friends; the fridge, freezer and pantry were fully stocked. Anything you could think of was provided, the extras are far too many to list. Well priced and gorgeous I cannot say enough about this cottage. After a long day we relaxed and watched one of the fantastic up to date DVDs on offer. I will be looking for reasons to come back to Carterton just to stay here again

Fabulous sanctuary
A little oasis after finishing the challenging Tora Coastal walk in South wairarapa. Broke our journey north to relax and this haven was perfect. Hosts provided wine and nibbles on arrival and there were too many extras to name. Clean, comfortable and great value for money. Breakfast was provided which we cooked ourselves. We will return and recommend this quaint cottage to others. Thanks so much- feeling rejuvenated.
