The apartment is just 5 minutes walk from the center of Gaiole, where you will find all the services you need. Like restaurants, bars, wineshops, banks, food shop, hairdressers etc. Gaiole is one of several traditional Chianti villages in the region. Others worth visiting include Radda, Greve and Castelina. From Gaiole it is just 25 km to Siena and 80 km to Florence .In the Gaiole area alone, there are about 35 vineyards, large and small, many of which offer wine tastings and direct sales. All around Gaiole you have very good opportunities for treking. THE APARTMENT HAS BEEN OUR HOME 8 MONTHS A YEAR IN 4 YEARS, SO THE APATMENT IS MUCH MORE THAN AN ORDINARY 'RENTING APARTMENT'. About the neighbourhood
Around Gaiole you have lots of castles, some within walking distace, from the old Medieval, including Meleto, Barbischio, Spaltenna, Badia a Coltibuono. Not far away is also Brolio, where the wine industry started with Barone Ricasole back in the 12th Century. There are many vineyards 'just around the corner' some of them bigger and some small family owned ones too. Usually it is possible to try their wine and oil and also buy it directly (venditta diretta). Local street festivals take place celebrating wine, music, ceramics and much more. In the center of Gaiole there is a Tourist Information which can provide up-to-date information on local events. Something popular is to join a cooking class and learn how to make the Tuscan food. Keen walkers and cyclists will find plenty of routes on the doorstep, and horseriding is available locally.
How to get there
Arriving from Rome A1 after about 230km turn right to Valdarno-Montevarchi. Follow signs to Gaiole (SP408). Arriving from Pisa, Florence and Milano A1 turn right to Valdarna-Montevarchi. Follow signs to Gaiole (SP408). Arriving in Gaiole turn right before the church. Then the second road to the right (Via Gasperi). After ca 100 meters turn sharply to the left. Then you see the Borgo on the right hand side.
