Two blocks off Carrollton Avenue, five blocks from the St Charles Ave Streetcar line, the house is newly renovated by two architects returning home after many years in Paris. It is a simple, Arts & Crafts house filled with a hodgepodge of furniture inherited left and right, and brand new custom drapery and bedding. Safe parking in front of the house along Fig Street, where the seminary parking lot (private) lights up the whole street ; their guard makes rounds all night.
The house overlooks the Notre Dame Seminary, and the street is full of potholes, not unlike the rest of historic New Orleans. The neighborhood is lively and mixed : you will hear loud music playing from cars going by, and will be greeted by passers-by with a ' ' Mornin ' !! ' or a ' How ya' doin ' ?'
One of the BEST RESTAURANTS IN THE CITY is TWO BLOCKS down : 'YE OLDE COLLEGE INN'. Its name does not give an inkling of its superb food and wine ; they grow their own vegetables and herbs across the street. Just next to that is world famous 'ROCK-N-BOWL'. Unbelievable place. LIVE MUSIC on THURSDAYS. Dance classes too. Seriously fun.
Also one of the city's best Japanese restaurants, 'ASUKA' is a block down from the house. ROBÉRT'S (pronounced 'Ro bears') local upscale GROCERY STORE is a few blocks down Carrollton for FRESH BOILED CRAWFISH, excellent catered food, and the BEST TURTLE COOKIES in the CITY. Save-a-Lot supermarket is two blocks from the house.
Walk over to the streetcar and take it all the way to the other end. The ride is a delight. You hop off at the other end, cross Canal Street, with its very, very downtown feel, and mosey into the French Quarter, where you will have Café au Lait and Beignets at CAFÉ du MONDE, and later, the best gumbo in the city at THE GUMBO SHOP.
We are still working on the front and back yards, so you may catch us digging and building our fence.More
