New ground floor renovation in Faubourg St. John/ City Park neighborhood. Two blocks to City Park, Bayou St. John and Street Car to Medical Center and French Quarter. Easy walk to grocery stores, restaurants and shopping. One bedroom mother-in law suite on the ground floor of Arts & Crafts home with owners living upstairs. We built out the space this summer and filled it with custom touches like cypress bead board, granite counters, deep tiled bathroom, barn door closing the bedroom off from the main living space. We ran an upscale Bed and Breakfast in the Garden District for a dozen years so we know how to help guests feel at home and have a treasure trove of information about the City. We live upstairs and can be as involved in your stay as you chose. There are maps and current dining guides in the apartment as well as our own curated list of great places to eat. We also respect you did not come to New Orleans to spend time with us and are equally happy to get you settled, show you all the passwords you need, where the bikes are stored and leave you to it.

The City Park, Bayou St. John area is one of the more picturesque areas of the city. Before the French colonized Louisiana, Native Americans lived on the land that is now City Park. Bayou St. John was part of a trade route Marie Laveau is said to have performed rituals along the bayou’s banks. The portage trail along the bayou became the 'Grand Route St. John' which eventually was replaced by the wide Esplanade Avenue where . the area’s oldest and grandest homes sit there.The banks of Bayou St. John are an important meeting place for the Mardi Gras Indians for their 'Super Sunday' parade after Carnival. There are many small local restaurants within walking distance.

We are one block from the Street car which travels along Carrolton Avenue to canal Street and terminates at the French Quarter, a transfer to the St. Charles Street car tot he Garden District and Uptown or to the Rampart line into the Marginy is easy. We have bikes which guest can use to transverse the city (it is flat and bike friendly) or to hop on the Lafitte Greenway and ride down to the French Quarter. The neighborhood has many trees and walking and biking is a delightful way to learn the architecture up close, stop for a snow cone or adult beverage and enjoy the day.
