Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Could be a 5 star stay with a few upgrades
3.5 out of 5 First, let me say that the cabin itself is more than adequate for a visit of 4. I really enjoyed the secluded location and the staff was pleasant and fine to work with. Pigeon Forge is about 35 minutes away, so if you desire the activity of a Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, this might not be the location for you. On the other hand, if you want a nice, quiet stay in a beautiful spot, this will work out well. As an added bonus, the Tuckileechee Caverns are a stones throw away. Cade's Cove is also just a short drive. Be sure to visit both! On the down side, the mattresses in both bedrooms are in need an upgrade. There were saggy and not very comfortable. A set of dresser drawers in each bedroom would really be nice, too. Or at least, put some hangers in the closets. The fireplace did not stay on and was virtually useless. The hot tub was not ready for use and there was no hose to use to fill it with water. The jacuzzi was a nice touch, however. The upgrade to a flat screen TV was a pleasant surprise because the video tour of the cabin shows an older and smaller set. The wifi was adequate and better than expected based on the secluded location. The cabin was clean and came with well stocked kitchen appliances and utensils. We would stay here again because we felt that the cabin was a decent value for what we paid. With a few of the upgrades listed above added, this little cabin could become quite a treat.

Thank you so much for your review. And thank you for letting us know about the mattresses. Today, we are putting new mattresses on both the beds. The hot tub was in need of a part to repair it, which has been repaired since then. We strive for excellence, and without your review, we wouldn't have known about these issues. Please come back sometime and check out the new beds and the hot tub.

Is anybody here?
We stayed for 3 nights here. I attempted to call the office with the cabin phone to ask about wash cloths. The cabin phone did not work. My wife noticed there was no hair dryer in the cabin, (this was not a big deal, just did not want them to think we took it) I used my cell phone, could not get a answer, so I left a message. No return calls at all. When we walked onto the front porch we noticed a charcoal grill that had not been cleaned out. A metal bucket sat beside the grill & ashes & half burned charcoals were scattered around it on the floor. We noticed in the kitchen the cabinets were sticky with what appeared to be grease from the stove under them. The cabinets and the stove needed a thorough cleaning! In the tiny bathroom we noticed toothpaste spray on the walls and light switch. The mattress on the bed in one of the bedrooms was sagging in the middle. After checking it out I saw that the box spring was made of plywood and cardboard. No springs at all. The same mattress and boxspring set is in the other bedroom but had not been used quite as much. The air conditioner never got the cabin below 78 degree the entire time we were there. The last night it stopped working all together. Yes, I called about it too, got no return call on it either. We slept with some of the windows open that night. Could not open all of them because there were no screens on all the windows. I will never stay here again. There costumer service is absolutely non existent! This place is way over priced even with a Groupon!

Dear Dwayne, We were so sad to hear of your less than excellent experience staying with us at Cedar Cove cabin at Tuckaleechee Retreat Center. It is our goal for each and every guest to have an outstanding time and be able to refer their friends and family to us. We understand this is not the case with you, and we would love to have a second chance to make this up to you. Please know that this level of service and standards are not the norm here, nor is this type of review. Our Innkeeper was on vacation when she received your message on her cell phone, and she called our Maintenance Supervisor to visit your cabin to resolve your situation. He went to your cabin, but all the lights were out, and because he did not want to disturb your stay at the late hour, he waited until the next morning. Going forward, we are making the Innkeeper’s cell number and the maintenance man's cell number available for problems, instead of the office, so that reaching a person will not be an issue. I’m sure it was frustrating for the A/C to not get below 78. This has been serviced. We are in transition with our cabin phones – thank you so much for calling this to our attention! Thanks to your e-mail, we have left notes on the phones until they are (hopefully very soon!) fixed by a technician specializing in internet phones. We have also recently transitioned with our cleaning company. The issues that you noticed with your stay will not happen again in the future. We would like to express sincere regret for the non-cleaned grill, as well as the cabinets and stove. Again, these issues have been addressed and resolved. Tuckaleechee Retreat Center is actually a non-profit ministry, funding Children’s Bible Ministries, a network of Christian camps in 11 locations nationwide. As we can budget upgrades, we desire to do so, in order that our guests may have the most comfortable and relaxing experience. Mattresses are at the top of this list, and we have begun to upgrade our main lodge, Elk, in this capacity. The box springs currently in the cabins are standard, nothing fancy, but we are sorry this was uncomfortable for your group. We would love to offer you a complimentary one-night stay, sometime before the end of this year. Please call Ruth White, Innkeeper, at 865-621-0827 to book your stay, and please reference this letter.

About the neighbourhood
This cabin is in Townsend, TN, a peaceful town beside the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, one of the few free national parks in the U.S.!! We are nestled on the side of the mountain, overlooking the beautiful Dry Valley and Rich Mountain, where serenity abounds! Townsend provides delicious restaurants, several options for river tubing, souvenir shopping, museums, horseback riding, and more! The National Park has endless opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, picnics, and viewing wildlife. A favorite is the Cades Cove Loop Rd which is 11 miles of scenery and wildlife in its natural habitat. Just a short 30 minutes away, is Pigeon Forge, home of Dollywood and many fun tourist attractions and shopping options.
Getting around
You can walk or ride a bike, but we are located approximately 3 miles from "town," and the roads are steep and winding! We would recommend a car. However, biking is VERY popular in this area, so bring your bike if you like to ride!

How to get there
We are located 20 minutes from Cades Cove, 30 minutes from Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, 45 minutes from Knoxville, and 2 hours from Chattanooga!
