Fabulous cottage. Lovely and cosy. Had great times watching netflix in the evening with 87 year old aunt. Could do with a handle for the elderly in the shower to help them feel supported. We both had great sleeps. Very comfortable beds. Everything you needed...More

We have never given a negative review, and do so now with reluctance and care. The "garden" at the front had rubbish in ie, broken tiles, bits of wallpaper, a broken lampshide. There was plaster dust in the wardrobe and on the coat hangers. We...More

About the neighbourhood
Central village location, very handy for amenities, including shops, hotels, distillery, leisure centre and soft play. There is a shingle beach a few yards from the property, fronting West Loch Tarbert, but the stunning expanses of sand that Harris is famous for are only a short drive away.
Getting around
Bus services pass the front door (stopping outside the school opposite) but services vary at different times of the day and year. The nearest bus station is located half a mile a way in the village centre, next to the ferry terminal. Car hire is available from Isle of Harris Car Hire, who will do short hires as well as bookings for a week or more.

How to get there
Airport: Stornoway: 60.0 km
Ferry: Tarbert (for Uig, Skye): 0.5 km
From Tarbert ferry terminal proceed past the new distillery and tweed shop, turning right towards Stornoway at the T-Junction. Continue for around 400 yards, passing the Harris hotel and Inn (on your right) and Sir E. Scott School ( on your left). Our cottage is just past the far end of the school, next to a row of bungalows and opposite the playing fields beside the West Loch. If you are travelling by ferry with a car, please do book your ferries as early as possible, checking availability before booking with us, as they get very busy in the summer months.

From Stornoway, follow the A859 south to Tarbert. As you enter the village, you will see the school and playing fields on the right hand side, right in front of West Loch Tarbert. Kelpie cottage is just level with the pitches, you wi...
