Loved our time on Lewis. This cottage was clean and homely. Great five minute walk to the Blackhouse village and small pebble beach. Also walk to cliffs from gate in garden. Great to do as no driving that day. Brilliant views

I agree the house has a dated feel to it as the older houses in the area were built immediately after WW2 and in our case in 1951. We have tried to retain some of the older features while modernising the kitchen and bathroom and...More

Looking forward to your return visits and so glad you found it inspirational. I have been looking at the possibility of targeting the anscestry market as the house is so much part of the community. It would be great to help people discover their roots

About the neighbourhood
The house is on the west coast of the island. It is near to the historical black house village, where there is a museum, cafe and sheltered stoney beach. There are magnificent sandy beaches within a few miles of the house and you can walk to Dalmore beach from the back of the croft. The ancient Standing Stones of Callanish are 6 miles away and the ancient broch of Carloway is 3 miles away. It is a very good area for walking and you can walk round the coast from the house. The village has a craft shop but no food shops. The nearest town,Stornoway, is 24 miles away but it is easily reached by car and there is an excellent bus service to the door. Parking is available at the house and there is a fenced area around the house which makes it safe for children and dogs. the house also sits on its...
Getting around
A car is not totally essential as there is a regular bus service to the local town Stornoway 24 miles away. However, if you want to visit beaches ,historical sites, art galleries, take part in activities etc you will need a car. Personally. I think you will enjoy your holiday far more if you have your own transport. Cars can be hired on the island if you choose to fly or you can bring your ca over by ferry. Most visitors choose to travel via the ferry.
