Puffin Cottage is a traditional stone built cottage in the heart of Port Ellen but on a quiet road, previously a family home it has been completely refurbished within the last 12 months. Consists of open plan downstairs lounge and hall area in solid wood parquet flooring, large kitchen/diner, and downstairs double shower(room) and access through patio doors out onto an enclosed paved seating area. Upstairs there is a bedroom with a super king size bed, opposite is a room with 4'6' double, both these rooms have en-suite loos and off the double room is a restricted height entrance to a bedroom with 3 single beds (children absolutely love it!). The island by itself is just gorgious and Puffin cottage was a restful and comfortable home after the whole day outside. Great Location. Well outfitted. Worked well for us except that it was odd having to climb through a small door in one upstairs bedroom to get to the third bedroom.

About the neighbourhood
The area around Port Ellen is amazing and fascinating, from the Kildalton Cross, a symbol of the earliest Christianity in this Isle of Islay to the equally magnificent headland called the Mull Of Oa facing out across the Atlantic Ocean toward America and Ireland. Within a decent walking distance can be found the distilleries of Laphraoig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg all of which delight in showing visitors the art and magic of making Uisge Beatha, (The Water of Life) and the tasting afterward!

Ferry: Port Ellen: 0.1 km
There are two ferry ports on Islay, Port Ellen in the South and Port Askaig in the N.E of the island. Calmac who operate the ferries to the Highlands and Islands have split the timetable to allow both ports to be used equally, although in bad weathers it tis the more sheltered Port Askaig that is favoured. There are several ferry crossings each day leaving Kennacraig on the Mull of Kintyre and the sailing takes between 2/2.5 hours depending on the destination.
