It is approached from its own gated gravel parking area and then along a short path onto the covered decking. The lodge is accessed by a set of double doors into a small sitting room with open plan galley kitchen, equipped with fridge, oven and ceramic hob, there is a range of kitchen equipment including a microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee machine, all cutlery china glassware and cooking utensils are supplied as is electricity and heating. Towels and tea towels are provided. The Retreat operates a NO SMOKING policy and is not suitable for children or pets. The living space is fitted with a cozy two seater sofa, TV and DVD player, moving down the short corridor brings you to the bedroom, another set of double doors leading to the outside make this a light and bright room, this has a comfortable king sized bed and a door leading to the en-suite shower room. When the weather is good both sets of doors can be opened back bringing the garden into the lodge, the raised deck outside with a seating area affords fabulous views, with glimpses of the sea and Burgh Island in one direction and across the Avon valley and out to Dartmoor in the other. The half acre garden around the lodge is in the process of being landscaped and the owners are happy to allow guests to access this. It is a short walk from the Retreat to the beautiful sands of Bantham beach and to the South West Coast path. The South Hams of Devon which is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Coastal Protection is the jewel in the crown of this beautiful county and the coastal village of Bantham is without doubt one of its most glorious and picturesque, this is where the river Avon reaches the sea after its meandering journey from Dartmoor. As you look out from the beach you will see the iconic landmark of Burgh island made famous in part by the writer Agatha Christie, If you travel to Dartmouth a few miles away you can visit Greenways where she used to live. There are many beautiful walks in the area. The South West Coast Path, is a walkers paradise, this is England's longest way marked long-distance footpath and a national trail it stretches from Minehead in Somerset to Poole harbour in Dorset but we like to think that the stretch from Bantham out towards Start Point is the most spectacular. Bantham village with its row of 17th century cottages boasts an historic pub, the Sloop Inn. The village also has a small shop with a cafe attached and with its outside deck a splendid place to sit and enjoy a coffee and the panoramic views. The wildlife in the estuary is a haven especially for bird watchers, the whole area has a wild natural charm. The market town of Kingsbridge is about 4 miles away and has a good range of shops and restaurants also a leisure centre, Salcombe is just a short distance further and again a very popular place to sit and watch boats or maybe take a trip on one, the hidden haven of Overbecks a subtropical garden and museum can be found at Sharpitor on the cliff tops above Salcombe For golfers there are two courses to choose from the first is in Thurlestone and the other slightly further away is in Bigbury, both have splendid views out to sea. There are many different water-sports to watch or enjoy, Bantham runs a surf school at certain times of the year and surfers, kite surfers, kayaks, windsurfers and paddle boarders all enjoy the sea here. Triocean in the nearby village of Churchstow has a wide range of equipment that can be purchased or hired by the day. The sunsets here are spectacular and as the area has a dark skies policy stargazing is a real treat, so whether you like to walk, enjoy the sea and the surrounding countryside or just sit and chill out you will find the Retreat a place to relax and unwind More

What a wonderful stay we had here. There is a large driveway, so plenty of space to park the car. The cabin is a very short walk from the driveway. It is in its own 1/2 acre of garden so it feels secluded. The cabin...More
