No.10, Beehive Cottages is a small and compact 17th Century, Fishermans cottage which has been renovated for modern living.

It is thought that it may have been 'The Dolphin' ale house and may well have been involved with the active smuggling trade that Goldhanger was renowned for - So much so the village had its own coastguard. Three half crown coins were found hidden under the fireplace during the renovation.

Goldhanger is a sought after conservation village and Beehive Cottages benefit from being in Fish Street where it is only a short walk (5 mins) to the Blackwater Estuary. This area is especially known for over wintering geese and the large variety of wading birds who feed from the rich habitats including Saltmarsh. Catherine and Adrian are available to you during your stay should you need anything. They can advise on the local area and getting around, or if you need anything else during your stay then they will endeavour to provide this. We try to give a hearty welcome with explanations about changing heating selections and any other quirks to the property. There is also a lively Golden Retriever called ‘Bumble’ who will be very pleased to meet you should you want to. If you aren’t so keen, just let us know and we will make sure Bumble does not bother you during your stay.

About the neighbourhood
Goldhanger is a beautiful traditional village with a number of period properties and a beautiful church in the centre of the village square.

There is a fantastic pub at the top of Fish Street, just a few doors down. The Chequers serves great food and a wide selection of dishes with the pub itself listed in CAMRA and boasts local craft beers and ciders, all housed in a quirky period property.
There is another pub also serving food within the village including fish and chips and traditional pub grub.

There are no shops within Goldhanger but it is within close proximity to Maldon and Tiptree (famous as the home of Wilkins & Son jams) where there are a number of large supermarkets or smaller local traders.
Getting around

How to get there
Beehive Cottages are located in the pretty village of Goldhanger. Close to towns such as Maldon and Colchester, and the City of Chelmsford, makes it the perfect location to explore the many interesting and historic sites in Essex.

Witham (7miles) is the nearest main line railway station and has a good service to London Liverpool Street and East Anglia rail services.

Although there is a bus route through Goldhanger, we would recommend the use of a car for your stay so that you can access the local amenities.
