Holiday Rental House
No.10, Beehive Cottages is a small and compact 17th Century, Fishermans cottage which has been renovated for modern living. It is thought that it may have been 'The Dolphin' ale house and may well have been involved with the active smuggling trade that Goldhanger was renowned for - So much so the village had its own coastguard. Three half crown coins were found hidden under the fireplace during the renovation. Goldhanger is a sought after conservation village and Beehive Cottages benefit from being in Fish Street where it is only a short walk (5 mins) to the Blackwater Estuary. This area is especially known for over wintering geese and the large variety of wading birds who feed from the rich habitats including Saltmarsh. There are many beautiful walks around the area both along the sea ...No.10, Beehive Cottages is a small and compact 17th Century, Fishermans cottage which has been renovated for modern living. There are many beautiful walks around the area both along the sea wall accessed at the end of the lane, or across fields and countryside close by. There is also a sailing club that does loan canoes/kayaks. (Please get in touch before hand if you are interested and we can try to arrange for this with the club). The cottage is a family run business attached to the owners property; No10 is completely separate with its own enclosed garden and access. Visitors can expect an uninterrupted stay however Catherine and Adrian are on hand should you require assistance. We have just started letting No.10 this year as a holiday let and welcome you to come and enjoy your stay. Downstairs Stepping into No. 10 you can't fail to notice the fireplace, complete with wood burner - ideal after a brisk walk on the sea wall in Winter. There is a log store at your disposal and we will help you if you are unfamiliar with lighting log burners - don’t hesitate to ask. The lounge / diner is cosy with all the usual modern technology such as TV, wifi etc. There is underfloor heating in the property. The kitchen again has everything you might need, including Butler sink, Smeg oven and touch hob, large fridge/freezer and microwave. We have tried to supply everything you might need for your stay. There is access to a separate laundry facility should you ever need it. If you require anything specific for your stay we will try to accomodate this for you if you give us a bit of notice. Upstairs At the front of the Cottage is our favourite room - the master bedroom, with original timbers & beams, plus brick fireplace full of character. The quaint window looks out onto Fish Street which has a range of other period properties along the lane. The second bedroom is a single modern room with views over the garden. The bathroom is well designed for a small space, with a cubicle modern shower and heated towel rail. Outside The Cottage has a beautiful, cottage garden with patio area, ideal for summer dining. The garden is part of a larger space but the property has its own enclosed garden for you to enjoy. Seating and additional chairs are always available as well as a bbq if you would like one. There is designated parking available at the end of the terrace in a shared driveway. There is also ample parking at the top of the village square should you want to meet friends. With excellent pubs within a short walking distance in the village and close to other local eateries both in neighbouring villages Tolleshunt D’Arcy, Great/Little Totham etc you should have no problem finding a perfect place to eat. Supermarkets and local traders are also close by in both Maldon and Tiptree. For more information take a look at our website. Beehivecottages Please note: We thought it best to advise that the log burner does kick out some heat and due to the small size of the cottage, it may not be suitable for young children during cold weather when you might want to enjoy the fire. Due to the positioning, a fire guard would not protect children from touching the burner if they get close to the fireplace and so please take this into consideration. We do have a stair gate but at present do not have a high chair for use. If you would like to bring children, please do let us know and we will be sure to try to accommodate any needs. More

Many thanks for the kind review. We try to be helpful without being intrusive. There are so many places to go and sights to see that sometimes our local knowledge can be helpful to new visitors.

Interaction with guests
Catherine and Adrian are available to you during your stay should you need anything. They can advise on the local area and getting around, or if you need anything else during your stay then they will endeavour to provide this. We try to give a hearty welcome with explanations about changing heating selections and any other quirks to the property. There is also a lively Golden Retriever called ‘Bumble’ who will be very pleased to meet you should you want to. If you aren’t so keen, just let us know and we will make sure Bumble does not bother you during your stay.

About the neighbourhood
Goldhanger is a beautiful traditional village with a number of period properties and a beautiful church in the centre of the village square. There is a fantastic pub at the top of Fish Street, just a few doors down. The Chequers serves great food and a wide selection of dishes with the pub itself listed in CAMRA and boasts local craft beers and ciders, all housed in a quirky period property. There is another pub also serving food within the village including fish and chips and traditional pub grub. There are no shops within Goldhanger but it is within close proximity to Maldon and Tiptree (famous as the home of Wilkins & Son jams) where there are a number of large supermarkets or smaller local traders.
Getting around
For more information about what is in the area and going on in the county, our website has a great video detailing the Saltmarsh Estuary and the Essex tourism links. There is room to store bikes and sporting equipment if you need it.
