Beatifully converted 2 bed barn in a working stable yard that is set in 7 tranquil acres that border the river Pant. This unique cottage comfortably accommodates 4 people. As well as central heating the lounge hosts a log burner next to a 50 inch HD television. There is a wet room to enjoy a spacious shower and a well equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar overlooking the stable yard, if the more formal dining table is not wanted. The property is suitable for wheel chair users. Stansted airport is 25 minutes away. The village has 2 pubs, a butchers, Co op store, an electricians, a hairdressers and a book shop and 2 churches all within walking distance. Picturesque famous Finchingfield is a mile away and boasts cream teas, fine dining and friendly ducks and geese. Disappointed that the "sleeps 4" moniker, refers to a double bed and 2 bunk beds. As we were 2 couples this was unexpected and resulted in a coin being tossed. A bunk bed does NOT comfortably house a 6ft man. The mattresses ended up being...More

Had a great stay for over a month with great views across horse pastures surrounded by woods. A really charming introduction to the thatched cottage villages of Essex if all you know is city Essex.

About the neighbourhood
Gt Bardfield is a self contained village with amazing bridle and footpaths. a windmill and a fabulous water mill are within walking distance.Quarter of a mile outside the village is the Blue Egg which makes all its own bread and cakes, one mile in the opposite direction is Finchingfield with its stunning views.
How to get there
From Stansted airport/train station it is a 21 minute drive to Gt Bardfield. From Harwich Port it takes1 hour to drive or a train can take you as close as Braintree or Witham. Collection and drop off can be arranged. It is possible to be entirely self sufficient in the village, however a car is recommended for site seeing.
