The cottage is your perfect retreat setting, featuring a newly redecorated open living, dining and kitchen area with 2 just completed addition of 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, sleeping 4. We have named the cottage Herons Nest because on our first visit to look at the land, a Great Blue Heron flew off a a large boulder next to the entry onto the property. It was an auspicious sign. We purchased the land, and have had no regrets since building the original cabin in 1997, and moving into our home in 1998. The original cabin was 320 square feet, and new additions and complete renovation of the interior of the cabin now provide 960 square feet of comfortable living space, giving the feeling of deep relaxation once you enter the completely private interior of the cottage. Situated on beautiful 20 acres of land with private river access for fishing or relaxing, you can walk on trails through ever-changing woods or stroll along the Ivy River. Only 20 minutes from downtown Asheville, the peaceful retreat setting provides the best of both worlds. Just completed June 2017, this stylish cottage was designed to create a blend of a mountain cabin’s harmonious connection with the natural world and all of the newest, luxury amenities of home. Wide sweeping views from your deck or home interior provide opportunities for spotting our resident heron and other wonderful bird life, to listening to the sounds of the laughing river. Each room, including a bath with a large picture window connects you to the revitalizing experience of nature. The cottage is ideal for small families, 2 couples or a small group. Dogs considered. This place is amazing! It looks rustic on the exterior, but don't let that fool you; inside is charming yet modern and updated. You do feel isolated but I think that's the idea when you book a cabin in the mountains. It's incredibly easy to...More

Love Heron's Nest! Didn't see Herons but did see a deer, a pheasant, and lots of little critters and birds! Mountain views, babbling river, elegantly decorated, wonderful hosts! Very private! Can't wait to visit, again!

About the neighbourhood
What makes this cottage unique We are situated on 20 acres of wooded strolling paths, which includes private river front access for our guests to just relax, read, nap or fish. The cottage, named Herons Nest, is centered around an off-grid cabin we built when we first purchased the land. We fully up fitted the cabin and added 2 bedrooms and a deck, to make it a mountain modern cottage. The setting is very private and peaceful, with large windows connecting all spaces to the natural world and a deck that overlooks the Ivy River, where you can enjoy the sounds of the laughing river, see wonderful bird life, and relax. We love the quiet, restful surroundings; yet shopping, exploring, and eating out are easily accessible.
Getting around
Herons Nest is about 5 minutes from the town of Mars Hill, with a post office, supermarket, CVS, local farmers market, and a few local and chain restaurants. We are about 10 minutes from Weaverville, with a great bakery, some taverns and restaurants. It its a 20 drive into Asheville, with all of its attractions.
