Interaction with guests
We do a Friday change over day that will save you 5 hours in traffic both coming and going. The entire island turns over on Sat & Sun and is funneled into 2 roads. You'll coast in on Friday, do your shopping and be hanging around the pool while the everyone else is stuck in traffic for an extra 5 hours. Arguably the Outer Banks' last frontier, Carova is renowned for its miles of privacy, including clean white beaches, a scattering of rental homes, and wild mustangs that roam freely from the ocean to Carova's small residential neighborhoods. Carova's seclusion is easy to explain, as there are no paved roads leading to this vacation spot, just miles of sand tracks that border the Atlantic Ocean.

The ocean temperature stays consistently warm throughout the summer months and into the fall season, so body boarding, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, and ocean kayaking are certainly worth a try during your beach vacation.
Getting around
If the dates you need are booked please or the 4 wheel drive area is not for you please consider our beautiful 6 bedroom Victorian mansion, the Slataire, in the heart of Duck village, an incredible location where you can walk to everything. The landscaping and trees are so fantastic that you feel like you are in a lovely countryside estate.
WHALEHEAD CLUB: Completed in 1925, the sprawling lemon yellow Whalehead in Historic Corolla has served a number of purposes during its decades of operation, including housing a private school for boys and acting as a rocket fuel-testing base.
COROLLA LIGHTHOUSE: Vacationers with stamina are welcome to trek up the 214 steps to the top of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse.

How to get there
2 miles into the 4 wheel drive area on Highway 12 North featuring our Wild Horses.

When NC Highway 12 ends, a ramp to the beach begins which runs parallel to the ocean and accesses the communities of Seagull, Penny's Hill, Swan Beach, North Swan Beach and Carova. The 11 mile stretch of shoreline. Sunnybank is right in front of Penny's Hill and one of the first vacation rental homes. Makes it easier than driving down another 8 miles when you need a milk or a case of beer.

By the time NC Highway 12 was completed all the way to Corolla in 1984, the government as well as private investors had already laid claim to much of the undeveloped land, forming refuges, parks and reserves, and a paved road through the area became impossible. A few homes were built, and continue to be develop...
