Holiday Rental House
One hour from Bordeaux, in the tiny hamlet of Lompian, is Maison du Canal, a long low farmhouse overlooking a world landmark - the Canal Lateral. Landscaped rose and wildflower gardens above the banks of the canal, where occasional pleasure boats pass by and the paved towpath offers pleasant, shaded walks and bicycle rides. There's a large, level front lawn with flowers, beautiful trees and a vegetable garden. Over two acres of private grounds offer views of vineyards, fields and mountains. The long, stone terrace, overlooking the canal, is ideal for al fresco dining. Steps lead down to a barbeque area and then a private pool with chaise longues and surrounded by flowering bushes. Furnished in both antiques and comfortable, French-designed furniture, the house offers a spacious two-story living room/dining room with a 17th century fireplace. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms; a large study with satellite television and Internet hook-up; a mezzanine; and a bright, sunny kitchen with every modern convenience. The house is filled with light from the many French doors and windows. Everyday shopping is available in the 13th century bastide town of Damazan, 2 km; wider choice of shops, supermarkets and restaurants at Aiguillon, 6 km. We're less than an hour from some of the most beautiful villages in France, such as Pujols, Penne and Clairac. There are easy daytrips to castles, chateaux, prehistoric caves, churches, museums, antique shops and open air markets. Bordeaux and the vineyard tour is one hour away. Spain is a three-four hour drive. Just twenty minutes away are canal boat rentals. We have three bicycles (the canal path is ideal for this), lots of CD's, videos, DVD's and books. More

About the neighbourhood
Maison du Canal is a one-hour drive east from the airport at Bordeaux. Our small hamlet, Lompian, is between Bordeaux and Toulouse. It is just 25 minutes from Agen. We are surrounded by several villages cited as 'the most beautiful villages in France,' among them Penne and Pujols. The nearest village is Damazan, a 13th century bastide. There are at least six excellent restaurants within a one hour radius. We are about three hours from the coast and four hours from Barcelona.
