My husband and I booked the Lakeside House for four weeks during August and we were joined by two friends pat way through. My husband is a recreational fisherman and this property was ideal for him. He and our friends could fish from the wall...More

The property is situated in the hamlet of;Troncais;, which is a focal point of this vast forest, due to its association with the historically ancient Forge which produced the steelwork for the renowned ;Eiffel Tour
Troncais oak is sent to make barrels for cognac and fine Bordeaux wines because of the good quality wood.
Originally the forest was planted by instigation of Jean-Baptiste Colbert,
( a Chateau can be visited nearby at Ainay-le-Vielle which contains souvenirs of Colbert ), minister for. Louis X1V of France, to produce oak for ships of the French navy.
Within a few minutes walk you will find an excellent, cafe, bar and restaurant

Getting around
Being a large country area ,with all its `treasures`, you are better able to have a car. Having said that the area is great for cycling( not too challenging !) for exploring around . Very safe and many French enjoy cycling.There are fun double bikes to hire locally.
If you wish to arrive by Train, we will pick you up from St.Amand Montrond Station and return, at the finish of your holiday.( minimum fuel charge)

If coming from the North or Ferryports there are numerous places to stop or stay . Chatre cathedral is an interesting stop and about halfway .The driving is usually very easy even with holiday traffic and mostly dual carriageway with some motorway.
