We stayed here through the week of the Fourth of July.
Deer Isle is beautiful, and quiet, although you will have some morning lobster boats working the water. Lobstermen get up early, so if you like to sleep in you may want a small fan for some white noise.
Shangra La is well represented by the photos. It has nice views of the ocean inlet. We saw a lot of wildlife. Deer and foxes on the entrance road, a harbor seal working through the inlet every morning. We brought one kayak, and the property had two additional kayaks, paddles and life vests. The exterior is pretty much standard Maine coast, with a rocky but serviceable beach for launching kayaks, and woods that come right down to the shoreline. The tides are pretty dramatic but you can launch a kayak anytime.
This is more like a second home than a typical waterside cabin. It is well appointed inside. The master bedroom is by far the biggest, but the other rooms are serviceable for sleeping and storing...
