The Twin Villages of Damariscotta - Newcastle conveniently located only 2 min. off of the major highway, Route 1, in Midcoast Maine.
Damariscotta, the 'river of many fishes' in Abernaki, is named for the alewives that annually migrate the Damariscotta River and then 'climb' the amazing fish ladder at Damariscotta Mills in order to spawn in the Lake.
The river is also one of the northernmost mating grounds of the primitive and marvelous horseshoe crab. And these waters support seals, ospreys, bald eagles, king fishers, great blue herons, mackerel and stripe bass, just to name a few.
