This is a new, off-the-grid, solar powered cottage - just completed in Sept. of 2018 - located on the back side of the pristine Cathance Lake. The east lake location is very peaceful with beautiful sunsets and a wonderful shore breeze, accounting for the name of the home, 'The Breezeway.' There is no traffic noise at this vacation rental's 5-acre lot, except for an occasional boat going by. Enjoy a romantic getaway or small family retreat for 4 guests at this lovely 2-bedroom, 1-bath cottage! -- THE PROPERTY -- Bedroom 1: Queen Bed | Bedroom 2: 2 Twin Beds Resting in a gated community with several lots that are all 5 acres in size, you'll have a few neighbors at The Breezeway but, the properties are so spread out, you may never see them. You're more likely to see and hear the wildlife in the area which might include moose, deer, loons, eagles, and owls! This home is also pet friendly and boasts a screened wraparound porch overlooking the lake, where you'll have 670 feet of private frontage! Solar panels provide electricity on the roof and charge a bank of batteries for storage. There is an automatic backup generator in case electricity demand exceeds supply, but it seldom comes on. Electricity powers the lights, outlets, and water pump. The refrigerator, stove, and hot-water heater are fueled by propane. Whip up a home-cooked dinner in the kitchen, then cozy up by the wood-burning stove in the living room to share quality time with loved ones. Water for general use is pumped from the lake, which is extremely clean. Bottled water is provided for drinking and cooking. Linens are provided as are towels, so all you have to bring is food! There is a canoe with paddles if you want to use it. Please be sure to bring a personal flotation device if you take out the canoe. There will be some flotation cushions provided. After a long day on the lake, a queen-sized bed and 2 twin beds offer ideal sleeping arrangements for your small family! -- THE LOCATION -- Cathance Lake is a sparsely inhabited, pristine lake with landlocked salmon and bass. Take advantage of this private lakefront location throughout your stay and seek out fishing sites, swimming holes, hiking trails, and many more adventures! To reach some shopping areas, drive about 35 minutes to Calais or 45 minutes to Machias. Both towns will provide whatever necessary comforts you might need, as well as some tasty local restaurants, unique boutiques, and other options for entertainment like movie theaters and more. The Down East Maine area is home to some beautiful outdoor spaces and natural scenery when you feel like venturing from your lakefront home.
