The luxurious Pool House is perfect for parents visiting their scholars at SIUC and couples enjoying time together. Acccomodating 5 people, the 900 sq foot self contained cottage on 3/4 acre of fenced grounds has a full gourmet kitchen, washer/dryer, King Sized Danish Modern bed, game room with 55” TV, WiFi, and a swimming pool. Near SIUC, Memorial Hospital and Downtown, it has dedicated parking and a private guest entrance. The Pool House is licensed and inspected by the City of Carbondale for your health and safety. Your hosts are Jane, retired professor of anthropology, and D., retired photojournalist for the New York Times.

We love meeting people and sharing our gardens, pool and home. Jane and I enjoy travel in our renovated 1967 Avion truck camper, visiting family, friends, and beauty spots across the U.S., as well as journeys to Europe to visit family in Copenhagen and travel to other interesting locales. We'll be happy to talk about the area and its attractions, SIUC or the history of the region. We also respect the privacy of our guests in the completely separate Pool House. Feel free to enjoy quiet solitude.

Melissa and Angie brought smiles to our faces as they swam, explored and enjoyed our Pool House and Southern Illinois. They left the place sparkling clean as well. I'd have to give them an A++ as guests and A++ as great people.

About the neighbourhood
Carbondale is unique in Illinois having one of the highest rates of college education - top 3% in the US. It also has the largest population of Millenials in Illinois at over 60%. Of course, that's due to SIUC which is just a few blocks away. The most retro bar in the Midwest, PK's, is just 4 blocks away. We are near an 'ecotone' of international importance in the Cache River bottoms - a place where the northernmost of southern species live alongside of the southernmost of northern species. We reside in the middle of orchard country where peaches and apples are ripened to perfection in season. And there is the well known wine trail, with award winning vintages.
Getting around
An automobile is not needed for shopping, visiting SIUC, Memorial Hospital and dining on the 'Strip'. Visiting the Wine Trail or Breweries can be arranged with private transportation companies. We lend out two vintage Schwinn bikes as well.

Railway: Amtrak: 0.5 km
We're located at 606 W. Elm St., in the heart of the historic Arbor District. Directions to our Pool House when coming from I57 in Marion: go west on Hwy 13 (Main St) into Carbondale, passing the Mall and crossing the railroad tracks. Stay in the left lane as you approach Poplar St, near the hospital. Turn left on Poplar and cross Walnut St. Take a right onto W. Elm, watch for 606. Parking is to the left of the house, directly next to the Pool House sign. The train station is across from Elm. Walk west 5 blocks. If coming from the north on Hwy 51, turn West on Hwy 13 and follow directions above. i
