On our second visit to the Mountain Goat Lodge, my husband and I brought our dog Max, grown kids, siblings, and seven year-old nephew for a three-night Thanksgiving getaway that couldn’t be beat. We communed with the farm animals—24 adorable goats, Pilar the llama, and chickens—and the two personable lodge dogs. With great beds and quiet hours, owners/hosts Gina and D’Arcy make it possible to get a good night’s sleep and then wake to a full breakfast with espresso drinks. Tons to do. We walked and hiked, soaked in hot springs, and shopped art galleries in nearby Salida with the stunning Collegiate Peaks 14ers as an unobstructed backdrop. Accommodations are just right with many thoughtful additions like a game room, hot tub, and fireplace. They recycle and reuse, and aim for a low environmental impact. We recommend the place.
