Durango, Colorado
We are open! Nestled among some of the oldest Ponderosa Pine trees, and with magnificent views of the red cliffs of the Animas Valley, the Ponderosa House is the perfect get-away destination for those who seek to discover Durango, Colorado and the Four Corners region. The Ponderosa House is our home and not a sparse, time-share space nor an impersonal hotel room.

Originally built in 1938 as a one- bedroom cabin, two renovations have increased the living space and added a master bedroom and bath. Many of the cabin’s original character points still remain including bead board ceilings, rustic built-ins and a 1950’s metal kitchen cabinet.

The Ponderosa House is approximately 1500 sq. ft. has a great room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an office/reading room, open concept kitchen, a utility with a high efficiency washer and dryer, wrap ar...

Very comfy and cozy cabin with a good amount of space. Kitchen is well-stocked. The location is perfectly located close enough to town but far enough to be away from the hustle.

About the neighbourhood
We are located about 7 miles north of Durango proper - just 20 minutes south of Ski Purgatory Ski slopes. Trimble Hot Springs Pools and Spa are 1/2 mile south of us. Dalton Ranch Golf Course is less than a mile away. Historic Downtown Durango is 9 miles - a drive of 12 - 18 minutes depending upon how many red lights you encounter!

Our home is located on a wooded, 1/2 acre lot on a mountainside cul-de-sac and shares a drive with two other homes. An old stagecoach road winds up from our property into the San Juan National Forest. It is accessible to hike or mountain bike. Folks like to walk their dogs up the trail.

We are 4 driving hours north from the Albuquerque and 8 hours southwest driving from Denver. The drive east and west using Highway 160 is beautiful with Mesa Verde National Park to the west and Chimney Rock National Park to the east. North of us on Highway 550 is Silverton, Ouray, and Telluride which make up part of the San Juan Skyway - a beautiful drive especially in the Fall. I would not recommend driving it southbound as there are a couple of hair-raising passes with big drops and no guardrails! Going north is do-able!!
