Glencairn, Western Cape
Glen Cottage is a charming and spacious, 3 bedroom cottage overlooking Glencairn Vlei with mountain and sea views. It is one of the oldest properties in Glencairn and is full of character with panelled walls and doors, yet it is surprisingly well proportioned with a large sitting/dining room and spacious kitchen. A BBQ/braai area is up steps at the rear garden, private with great views.

This is a charming, old-fashioned cottage with a very warm heart. The three bedrooms could comfortably accommodate a family of 5. We were welcomed by Lindi, who is caretaker and lives in a separate flatlet at the back of the property - she is an...More

So we booked this cottage through TripAdvisor after we learned our friend who lives nearby knew the owner. We arrived and were immediately struck by the quaintness and colonial look of the property. It’s really big inside with 3 bedrooms, a large living/dining area and...More

Thank you for the great review! We mention 'wheelchair friendly' as we have had two families with a wheelchair user stay in the past but do understand your point about the two steps up from street level. We look forward to welcoming you again.

About the neighbourhood
Glencairn beach is just a few minutes walk (approx 300m) and the train station gives access to Simonstown or Muizenberg with centre of Cape Town about an hour away. There is a local Spar shop a short walk across the vlei and a hotel close by with pubs and a few restaurants with Dixie's restaurant just around the corner opposite the station.
Getting around
Public transport is not great although the trains during daylight hours is fine. We have also used Uber but of course all these must be at your own risk. Most overseas visitors hire a vehicle so they can explore the many interesting and beautiful areas and beaches which surround this valley.
Car advised
How to get there
Airport: Cape Town International and Domestic airport: 20.0 km
Railway: Glencairn Station: 0.3 km
Please request directions and email will be sent with easy to follow route from airport.

There is plenty of parking directly outside the cottage with easy access.

The train station is 10 mins away with the line serving city centre Cape Town.

Once on Glen Road, look for a low level green cottage with white window frames and a cream coloured corrugated iron roof. This is about 10 houses down on left hand side along from the hotel. The wooden gate within the white concrete fence opens on right hand side at top is where you will find the latch. A painted sign of 36 is on the gate post.
