Holiday Rental House
Enter the estate through the gatehouse that once belonged to Bette Davis and her house Riverbottom. This historic estate was once owned by the famous actress back in 1940 and still has original features and snippets of Hollywood history. The front doors of Rivergate House opens on the main hall. High valued ceilings dominated by big round white Moroccan lights, the view of the garden and pool spill in through the French doors. The open plan room has a chiefs kitchen (double oven, plate warmer, dishwasher, equipment) and the adobe fireplace (gas and wood burning), great for marshmallow cooking after dinner. On the other side of the room, a Moroccan den with TV (Cable, Apple TV and Netflix) Sonos music system and a chest of toys. The large wood Moroccan dining table in the center of the room is the heart of this grand family house. The large arched windows look to the fountain and front courtyard area. The white arches and tile make this café sitting area perfect to take your morning coffee. The gated parking lot is patterned with brick and lined with planted stone pots; there is a tall blue fountain the birds like to come to. On the other side of the little entry court yard is a bench under the tree; sometimes there is a slight breeze rocking the hanging bird cage. The master bedroom with its King four poster bed has great charm with valued exposed beams, gray and white with vintage accents. The second bedroom is actually biggest, with twin beds and simple children's wall decals, a large room with space to tumble around. Both bedrooms are en suite (with shower sauna and steam room or a claw foot bath tub). The house is grand, stylish and updated. Our drought tolerant and organic garden is taking shape over the winter. We have a lounge area with pergola that create an outdoor room, we have a few new trees and sitting areas. A French Lavender maze for children to solve and agitate the lavender to permeate the evening air. We have horses living in the stables at the far end of the estate. The estate is large and unusual, with other smaller houses also available for rent. grounds are large enough that the house feels very private, but with the added bonus of other friendly faces and families nearby. Channing House http://www.tripadvisor.com/VacationRentalReview-g32431-d4994080-Channing_House_on_Private_Estate_w_Salt_Water_Pool-Glendale_California.htmlis the other two bedroom house. Dillard’s Pool House http://www.tripadvisor.com/VacationRentalReview-g32431-d4991434-Pool_House_in_North_Griffith_Park-Glendale_California.html is right in the heart of an estate and the larger of the two one bedroom houses. O’Leary’s Cabin http://www.tripadvisor.com/VacationRentalReview-g32431-d4993970-Cabin_in_Griffith_Park_with_pool-Glendale_California.html is the coziest, at the far end of the estate by the stable block. We enjoy massive organic gardens, almost an acre of garden with an abundance of butterflies and birds, saltwater pool and spa, fire pit, chickens, art studio, fountain area, fruit trees… and Wi-Fi throughout. Rivergate House is the biggest and grandest house on the estate. It is not uncommon as the sun is setting that we all gather to play or chat on the lawn, the park, or in the front orchard. Rivergate is a unique place and a little hard to describe, it feels a little like a village on a summer day.More

About the neighbourhood
There are great cycling trails and running tracks throughout the neighborhood. Downtown Los Angeles is about 15 minutes away, depending a little on the infamous LA traffic (there is a shortcut through the park along Riverside Drive that is very pretty and cuts out some of the traffic). Burbank and Glendale are home to loads of shopping including the Americana (a high end outdoor mall with fountain, fine restaurants and events). A Pavilions supermarket is one of the finest around and well within walking distance. Please don’t let the rural setting and the hooting of the owls fool you, we are still in the heart of the city and you should be aware that you can sometimes hear the freeway, helicopters, dogs and sirens typical of city living. I mention it because it seems out of place whil...
