Kobarid is a pleasant town dwafted by towering mountains offering many points of interest and places ideal for hiking, hunting and fishing. Marked trails lead from Kobarid to the mountain tops of Stol, Matajur and Krn and to the waterfall of Kozjak. Invigorating waters of the Nadiža attracts visitors in summer. The Krn mountain range looming over Kobard marks the fringe of Triglav National Park, a realm of pristine nature harboring breathtaking vistas of mountain wilderness.
Vršic Pass is a high-level pass in the Julian Alps of eastern Slovenia. At an altitude of 1611 metres, the pass is the higest in Slovenia, rising from Krankska Gora in a series of 48 hairpin bends and traversing the high mountains on the Slovenian-Italian-Austrian border before descending into the Soča valley. At an altitude of around 1200 metres just off the main road is a remote Russian Chapel and further on at the high point of the pass there is a mountain hut, where it is possible to buy refreshements or stay overnight.
