HORRIFIC- UNSAFE-BEWARE!!!!
I had one of the worst experience in my travel experience of 32 years!!! I had booking for 2 Nights: from 8th-10th July 2023. I booked in April 2023, rechecked with the management prior to 48 hrs before arriving to Palolem if it is running( given the monsoon season and July being one of the heavy downpour times in Goa), the official confirmed the property is completely functional. I reached at Palolem on 8th July evening to our utter surprise there is NO ROAD for 4 wheeler to reach the property!!!! You have to get down atleast 800m on the main road and take the muddy (kaccha road) through the La Alegro Guest House. We called the property for direction and requested to help someone with our luggage as the road was completely washed off, muddy and barely lighted. We offered to pay for the service too. After multiple request the receptionist by the name Tribhuvan completely rejected our request and extremely rudely said "IT IS A HOSTEL NOT A RESORT so he cant provide any help- we have to fetch our luggage ourselves". We then requested to atleast send someone to show the directions, at this Mr. TRIBHUVAN constantly kept refusing for 40 minutes saying he donot have any staff available to send, as there is no one at the hostel. My and my female friend was appalled at the rude behavior and state of road conditions. It was a pathetic situation, it was literally traumatizing to get such behaviour at a place where hospitability is the least one can offer. We were shocked and felt UNSAFE to stay at a place where before checking in the representative had such unprofessional and ugly way of dealing with customer. We requested him to refund the INR 2000 the booking amount (1 day charge was paid upfront) rather he kept on saying he is loosing business for a day HE wont refund!! We were shocked at the audacity of MR. TRIBHUVAN. The management did not take any action even after making the follow up call next day on 9th July 23, I have not received any refund yet!

Horrible Experience with Receptionist Arjun at Sturmfrei Jungle Hostel in Palolem
This has to be my most unpleasant experience in my 30 years of travelling for business and pleasure. I was thrown out of the Jungle Sturmfrei Palolem by the receptionist called Arjun. The reason is that I arrived late 5pm (whereas the check-in times is at 1pm!). Another reason I was given that I was over 40 years of age, which goes against Jungle hostel’s policy. I understand that but where is decency, reasonable behaviour, and a bit of hospitality? After travelling for 30 hours by train, aeroplane, and taxi, I arrived at Jungle hostel and was treated like a trespasser and was rudely told to leave the hotel compound because I was aged over 40! Here is what happened. I booked a room in a dorm Jungle Sturmfrei in Palolem for 2nd week of March 2023. After travelling for about 30 hours, I arrived and the Jungle hostel. The reception was totally empty, and receptionist was nowhere to be seen. I waited around for about 15 minutes and wandered in the forecourt of the hostel. I asked two or three people but they could not tell me receptionist’s whereabouts. After waiting for about 20 minutes, I stepped outside the compound and went for another search, and I found a group of eight or nine youths standing on ground of another hotel/hostel. I asked one of the youths about the whereabouts of the receptionist and the Jungle hostel. A young man stepped out, looked at me, and gestured me to follow him; that young man was Arjun – Jungle Sturmfrei’s the receptionist! I followed him into the Jungle hostel, and politely reminded him that I waited for some time before I could find anyone at the reception. It was clear from his expressions and gestures that he did not like what I said, and, in response, he shrugged and pointed to a mobile number written on paper that was glued on the wall. He sat down on a chair at the reception and retrieved my reservation on a computer screen. I politely told him that my UK mobile phone did not work in India. It simply fell on deaf ears, and he got annoyed and raised his voice. I asked him to calm down in a firm voice to lower his voice. He did like what I said and it was clear that he was taking the whole situation personally. Then situation changed rapidly and he gave me a withering look and asked: “have you read all the WhatsApp messages that I sent”? I told him that I have been travelling non-stop for about 30 hours and didn’t always have internet access and did not read the massages. To which he replied: “you have received all the messages, I can see it on my system – the SCIENCE cannot lie”. I don’t know what science he was talking about. Then began the inquisition. He gave me another withering look and asked me questions about my previous history of staying at a hostel. I told him about my previous two experiences of staying at hostels in Spain. He asked me further questions about my previous stays in hostels. After quizzing me for about 10-15 minutes, he told me that he did not have any further questions. Then he asked me whether I had read all rules, regulations, and policies of Jungle Hostel. I replied: “Yes”. He asked me whether I understood all of them. I replied, yes I have understood but I over 40 years old. He looked me with a smirk on his face and told me that I would have to leave Jungle hostel because he would not allow any guest who are older than 40 years. It was clear that he didn’t like me from the very beginning and took out a personal vendetta and decided to implement Sturmfrei Jungle’s policies to the letter and asked me to leave the hostel. Throughout my conversation with him, he smirked and spoke to me in condescending manner. I pleaded to him that I have nowhere else to go and I have just travelled 30 hours, I and at least I can stay one night. He smirked again and told me that rules are rules. After that he stood up and told me in rude voice to leave Jungle hostel compound immediately because I was breaking hostel’s rules. I stood up and picked up my suitcase and told him that what he was doing was unprofessional and totally lacked empathy. I also told him that I would raise it with Booking.com, which I later on did. He laughed and told me he did not care at all because he had already got his money from Booking.com (that is, my payment for the dorm booking). So, an hour after arriving at Sturmfrei Jungle hostel at Palolem, I left the hostel feeling humiliated, tired, thirsty, and bitter. So Sturmfrei Jungle hostel (Palolem) management, well done for hiring such a wonderful receptionist as Arjun who applies policy rules to the letter. But, rest assured that this review of mine is going to be published to nearly every single travel website on the internet. Enjoy!
