Welcome to our beautiful newly restored 1860s early settlers cottage which is charming, cosy, unspoiled and private. It is in a great coastal and rural location only 3.4km from the pretty Portobello Village shops and a good 30 minutes from Dunedin City, ideal for all activities on the iconic Otago Peninsula. There are conservation and wildlife books on the local area, also novels, cards, games, TV and free wifi. The cottage is self-catering and self contained. Kitchen facilities include microwave, a small oven and a fridge freezer. The modern newly built bathroom with shower has beautiful stained glass inserts in the ceiling and the window looks out over the chickens! You can drink healthy rainwater from the cottage's own supply. Enjoy our organic vegetable garden at the front door.Eggs...Welcome to our beautiful newly restored 1860s early settlers cottage which is charming, cosy, unspoiled and private. Come and experience a taste of how the early settlers lived with the comforts that we all expect nowadays. You'll see an early photo of the Cottage, some old bottles and other nicnacs found when we renovated it. The timber floorboards and walls are mostly original and beautiful. One of the upstairs bedrooms is set up for a couple of kids to try out writing on slates, sleeping under the rafters and hanging out the Rapunzel window! Don't worry, also very suitable for adults.More

About the neighbourhood
Otago Peninsula is famous for its wildlife, the Albatross Colony is 10 minute drive away. Penguins, seals and sea lions are all within close distance. Tours and visits are held frequently. The night skies in our area are spectacular and people come from far and wide to see the clear unpolluted views of the heavens. We are close to Portobello Village, the wildlife centre of Otago, with yellow eyed penguins and little blue penguins, the albatross colony, seals, sea lions, occasional whales and dolphins, birdlife and more. Larnach Castle and its wonderful garden are a short drive away. Outstanding arts and crafts are to be found on the Peninsula. Also many sports including surfing, sea kayaking, cycling.
Getting around
Having a car makes seeing all the local sights a whole lot easier. Cycles would work if you are very fit too! Public transport will take you to the city and back but not to the special spots you may like to see.
