The hands-on cooking classes at Poggio Etrusco range from one-day workshops to all-inclusive programs of 4 to 7 nights. Learn to make fresh pasta, or spend the morning with Pamela as she explores the Italian artisanal pantry, with explanations and tastings of olive oils, vinegars, capers, pasta, and more. Head out to the colorful local farmers' market with Pamela to buy the fresh ingredients to make the classic Tuscan dish, Ribollita. Visit local food artisans to discover the traditional process for making Pecorino, the local sheeps' milk cheese. Visit the area's best wineries for tastings, cantina and vineyard visits, and amazing food and wine pairings. Visit an antique frantoio, an olive pressing mill, for a demonstration and tasting of oils... or better, yet, help pick olives and participate in a tree-to-table workshop, bringing home olive oil that you've helped produce! Besides Tuscany, Pamela's company Italian Food Artisans (FoodArtisans dot com) also leads groups in other regions (Cinque Terre di Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Sicily, Veneto, Piemonte, Puglia, Campania). About the neighbourhood
Poggio Etrusco is in the countryside outside of Montepulciano, in southern Tuscany, halfway between Florence and Rome. A rental car is recommended, as we are 2 kilometers from the village, and also because there is so much to see in our area! Car rentals are available at our nearest train station (Chiusi), and also from local rental companies (info on request). Closest airports are Rome, Florence, and Pisa, which also have car rental agencies. We are in the production area of great wines! Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and very close to Brunello DOCG. Pecorino Toscano, sheeps' milk cheese is another specialty of the area. Pamela is happy to help you organize visits and tastings to the best artisanal producers, with emphasis on tradition and organic, when possible.
