Holiday Rental House
Gibbes Great House is the epitome of West Indian turn of the century charm and sophistication and has a magically authentic quality which makes it the perfect choice for those wishing to experience a slice of bygone Barbados, but with all the modern day comforts one would naturally expect in a rental property today. A beautiful villa on the west coast of Barbados, set within two acres of tropical gardens and just a one minute stroll to the stunning Gibbes Beach. *The Space* Gibbes Great House is truly unique - a detached, single storey and lovingly maintained plantation house set within its own two acres of lush and tranquil grounds on the ‘Platinum Coast’ of Barbados. As the gates open off the coast road and you sweep up the drive past the lily pond and the 18th century cannon that guards the entrance to the property, the first thing that will strike you about Gibbes Great House is the distinctive fan-shaped ironwork that surrounds the large front verandah, with its own bar and evening entertaining space. Climb the grand steps and walk through the verandah and you will be transported back in time to a Barbados of a century ago. The open plan living and dining space follow an ancient time honoured tradition of West Indian plantation house design with mahogany floors throughout the entire property. Crystal chandeliers and ceiling fans adorn the ceiling, antique mahogany furniture line the thick coral walls and a ten seat dining table invites scenes of hearty breakfasts or candlelit dinner parties. Walk past the cabinets filled with the owners' collection of Barbadian memorabilia into the planter's room. In here the traditional Caribbean rattan furniture and British fabrics give the opportunity to relax with either the benefit of a flat screen television with a host of satellite channels or the perfectly in-tune 1940s Kemble tropical upright piano, with beautiful views across the gardens to the pool area. Gibbes House has four bedrooms situated to the side and rear of the property, all with beautiful views of the tropical gardens. Bedroom 1 consists of a Super King size double bed with extensive wardrobe space. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are also equipped with wardrobes and drawer space, but consist of two twin beds in each (Bedroom 2 can upon request, be made into a King size depending on guest requirements). Bedroom 4 consists of a standard double bed with plenty of storage for holiday clothes. Each bedroom has its own ensuite shower room and is fully air-conditioned, Bedroom 2 also has a bath. The kitchen at Gibbes House is an ‘institution’ presided over by the wonderful cook and housekeeper Cordelle who has worked at the property for almost 20 years. For an additional fee (details on application) the house cook can provide you with a bespoke half or full board menu of pretty much anything you request, specialising though of course in classic Barbadian cuisine. Cordelle's attention to detail is second to none, and you are guaranteed to return home feeling entirely relaxed and well catered for. The kitchen is also fully fitted with all appliances for self-catering, with all equipment and utility costs included. Maid and laundry service are offered as standard, and babysitting can also be provided at an additional cost. A complimentary night watchman will be on hand each night of your stay at Gibbes House. The house boasts its own large swimming pool and sun terrace and is perfectly located for island exploring, water sports on the beach or just as a complete hideaway for ultimate relaxation. *Guest access* There are in fact two swimming pools and sun terraces within the grounds, which guests of Gibbes House have access to (the house pool is exclusively for the use of house guests only), as well as the almost two acres of gardens that make up the Gibbes estate, in which guests can simply just relax and enjoy at their leisure. *Interaction with guests* Gibbes Great House has a House Manager who will be contactable throughout the day and will be available to assist in all aspects of your stay. In addition, a UK based representative will be available to guests prior to and for the duration of their stay. *Other things to note* Gibbes - Your Personal Paradise If you are seeking additional accommodation on the estate - please see our listings for The Pavilion (sleeps 4), Osborne Cottage (sleeps 4), Bailey Cottage (sleeps 2) or both cottages combined as Gibbes Cottage (sleeps 6). Complimentary Rum/Fruit Punch on arrival along with a serving of Cordelle's Bajan fishcakes.More
