Railway Cottage is a traditional workers' cottage dating back to the early 1900's, when the highland line was first being built. Nestled between Balavil estate and the RSPB nature reserve, Insh Marshes, there are no shortage of spectacular views. The property is perfect for those seeking a bit of luxury, in an unspoilt, tranquil location, while enjoying the first class facilities of Strathspey. Stylishly renovated, the cottage boasts a living room with a huge log burning stove, 3 seater couch and arm chair, a 40', wi-fi enabled smart TV, with Netflix, Spotify, catch up TV and DVD. Additionally their is a BOSE stereo, with bluetooth, radio and line in, to connect music players / laptops. For dining, set back from the fire, there is a solid oak, Edwardian table for 4, with all you will need to prepare a meal through in the kitchen. The kitchen combines the industrial sense of the railway with the serene surroundings of Insh Marshes; a polished concrete work top, inlaid with stainless steel fittings, between beach cabinets and bur elm shelving. Everything you'd expect in a modern kitchen is nicely tucked in here; dishwasher, fridge-freezer, separate wine-cooler, 4 way ceramic hob, double oven / grill, micro-wave. The tiled floor stays cosy with under-floor heating (also in the bathroom). The views of the Cairngorms and Insh Marshes from both kitchen and living room are just incredible. Both bedrooms have luxurious king size double beds, with high-quality, cotton linen; a chest of drawers, desk/dresser and wardrobe; sheep skin and Persian rugs underfoot, colourful prints on the walls. Each has their own radiator with thermostat and black out blinds, for the snuggest possible night's sleep. The bathroom is decadent, with heated, Mediterranean style floor tiles and bespoke Victorian mahogany pedestal, below white, tiled walls and shiny, chrome fittings. The bath is a deep, relaxing, roll-top style. The power shower a smart, chrome one, with large over head unit and a separate hand operated head. Heated towel rail, hand crafted bur elm shelving and large mirror with shaving light make up the rest. Cosy dressing gowns, slippers and plenty of thick, cotton towels are all provided for you. Outside, the cottage is surrounded by incredible views. The garden itself is bordered sporadically by a variety of trees - birch, beach, oak, elm - providing some privacy but letting plenty of the view in. A large decking area has dining space for 4 on it, plus loungers for all. It looks south, so enjoys the sun most of the day and overlooks a bespoke, stone fire-pit, with benched seating made from old railway sleepers. A large lawn, with webber BBQ, double hammock, complete the back garden on the south and west sides of the house. The front garden looks across the railway and Insh Marshes and enjoys some of the best views of the Cairngorms there are. Wonderful location. Cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Only comment is that it couldn’t been cleaner - lots of dust above eye level, cobwebs and skirting boards needed a wipe down. Decor was wonderful, the fire pit a delight even in February and the beds...More
