The Suite at Les Terraces is a spacious and well appointed space from which to explore the Aquitaine. With lovely, unobstructed, river views, and access to a totally secluded terrace, The Suite offers comfort and convenience for a stay of 3 (or more) nights. Les Terraces is situated in the bastide of Sainte-Foy-La-Grande, forming part of the old defensive wall of the town, which was established in 1295. While the exact year of the house's construction is a topic of some conjecture, it is a matter of fact that Les Terraces is included in the register of historic buildings, and one of few 'columbage,' or half-timbered, buildings still inhabited within the town. ...The Suite at Les Terraces is a spacious and well appointed space from which to explore the Aquitaine. About the neighbourhood
Sainte-Foy-La-Grande is a bastide town on the southern bank of the Dordogne river. The area is rural, with the primary activity in the region being viticulture (wine-making to you and me!), although there is some general agriculture, too. The region has a venerable history, with the remains of many Roman villas (and towns), plus an abundance of chateaux that featured in the 100-years war. In fact, the final battle of this long-running dispute between the kings of France and England occurred just down the road in Castillon-la-Bataille. For sporting enthusiasts, choose from golf, canoeing, cycling, walking.
Getting around
Transport links are good, with 2 airports in reasonably close vicinity, an SNCF train station in the town (regular links to the TGV in Bordeaux) provides service as far east as Sarlat-la-Caneda to the East, and Bordeaux and beyond to the west. Cycling is popular in the area.
