QUARTER NAME'S HISTORY
Appius Claudius 'Blind' (350 BC - 271 BC) was a Roman politician and writer, born of noble birth as a member of the ancient gens Claudia. According to legend, his blindness, from which derived the nickname of the Blind, was due to the wrath of the gods for his idea to unify the Greco-Roman pantheon with the Celtic germanico. He was responsible for the construction of the first aqueduct, the Aqua Appia (or Aqua Claudia), the Via Appia, which was named after him and that is a clear trace of the interest of Appius Claudius for Roman expansion to the Magna Grecia.
