Lagavulin Hall

Converted chapel -
3 Bedrooms , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 8
Islay, The Hebrides, Scotland
Probably the most interesting holiday-let house in the Hebrides, Lagavulin Hall was built in the first years of the 1900’s as a parish church. It is on the South East of Islay in an attractive sheltered position, with views across Surnaig Bay to the ruins of the 14th Century Dunyveg Castle.

The building was converted into a house and remains virtually unchanged on the outside. It has been painstakingly restored and redesigned on the inside to provide a comfortable living space, which maintains the original simple style and grand scale of the interior.

Islay is one of the most beautiful of the Hebridean islands and is famous among bird watchers and especially whiskey connoisseurs. There are whiskey distilleries all over the island and Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Ardbeg distilleries are all walking distance from the house. Most of the dis...

This was our first stay at Lagavulin Hall. For a winter get away for my 30th on Islay I could not have asked for more. The hall is secluded in my favourite part of Islay just over the road from Lagavulin distillery. The hall has...More

Lagavulin hall was wonderful! All the comforts of home. Comfortable beds, warm blankets, plenty of hot water... close to town and the distillery’s. The house is gorgeous and comfortable especially with the fire at night. Beautiful scenery... can’t say enough good things about this place!

About the neighbourhood
Islay is one of the most beautiful of the Hebridean islands and is famous among bird watchers and especially whiskey connoisseurs. There are whiskey distilleries all over the island and Lagavulin Distillery is only 5 minutes walk from the house. Laphroaig and Ardberg are both within walking distance. Most of the distilleries offer visitor tours, which are very interesting and finish with a taste of the end product.

There are numerous sandy beaches and opportunities for fishing, kayaking, windsurfing and walking. The Machrie golf course is also a well known feature of Islay and there is a swimming pool in the main town, Bowmore, which is housed in a disused distillery warehouse and heated by surplus heat from Bowmore distillery. There are many sites of historical interest including the...
