Disappointing
We booked through Dunpark with whom we had good booking experience with an alternative property in previous years. Spey Lodge was considerably more expensive - £1,000 more than the last place which also slept 10. For that price hike we were really disappointed. Positive notes: the position - on its own in woodland - was fantastic - really peaceful. The beds were all super comfy. Lovely walks from the door. The kitchen is well equipped although certain essential items were missing - bottle opener, colander and butter dish. A number of dishes and pans were not clean when we arrived. For a booking for 8 people we expected more than 2 tea towels. Two slice rusty toaster. No cleaning materials are provided, no loo or bathroom or kitchen cleaner. When I raised this with Dunpark their response was that this was a self catering house and therefore cleaning materials were not provided. That feels utterly mean spirited given the price, and at odds with the last place which had everything. The interior is very gloomy -everything is stained plywood. Bathroom windowsills not clean. There were no instructions in the property and as it was a cold week we spent three days uncomfortably cold as we couldn't get the heating working. (Online welcome pack link broken) I phoned the owner who did try to explain - but still we couldn't get it working until day 4. None of this was necessary if written instructions had been provided. There is a projector tv which we did now know how to work - again - no instructions, which was frustrating. Not enough comfy chairs provided - one was really lumpy. and not clean. All in all we were really disappointed. Dunpark's responses to our complaints were completely inadequate. This house is really not value for money. Just not good enough.
