What about an winter/spring break or a romantic weekend? And it is proving a great season at the RSC. The cottage has many genuine period features with beams and antiques throughout, authentic flagstone floors downstairs and evocative, ancient original polished oak floors upstairs. Unlike some nearby cottages that are modern re-builds, Rose Cottage is truly authentic and retains all its original ancient timber structure. The beamed living room has a very large inglenook with log burner, gate-leg dining table for more formal dining and Freeview TV, a small DVD library and a range of books. There is free wi-fi throughout the cottage. The beamed kitchen / dining room has fitted units with cooker, fridge, microwave oven and small freezer. There is a washer-dryer in the laundry annexe and an outside line. The single quirky beamed bathroom has a clean white suite with full height shower over the bath and heated towel rail. There is a separate toilet but please note, this may appear on your booking confirmation as 'Bathroom 2' using American terminology. Two separate steep turning staircases, one with its unusual original door, lead to a sunny, spacious first floor with two rooms. There is a separating door between the rooms but each bedroom has its own staircase. The double room with beams and traditional rug has a large wardrobe with shelves and an 18th century storage trunk / chest. There is also a small library of books. The twin bedded room, also with a rug on the old wooden floor has a massive feature chimney breast and many old beams, and a good-sized wardrobe with shelf and wicker storage. Both rooms overlook the garden.Outside, off the laundry at the rear and adjoining a field where sheep and lambs graze in the spring, is a small gravelled courtyard with bench. The main garden is at the front and enclosed for total peace and privacy. There is a terrace with table and chairs, barbecue and a simple lawned cottage garden with shrubs and fruit trees leading to an arbour seat. A wood burner with initial basket of logs included but you will need to bring matches and firelighters. All white bed linen and towels are provided.Electricity, full gas central heating and WiFi are included. A travel cot and high chair are provided in the cottage.Shop and pub serving food within ¼ mile.Within Stratford there are Waitrose, Tesco and Morrison's supermarkets.** Although we welcome 'babies in arms' we regret that because of the ancient steep turning staircases, we do not recommend the cottage for toddlers and very young children. We are happy to supply any individual requirements for your own special occasion - please ask when booking. Sorry, but strictly no smoking and no pets. Please note that we never allow animals in any of our properties; it is not that we do not like them but are aware that many people have allergies and may not welcome lingering doggy odours. Although we are relatively new to TripAdvisor, we have successfully been accommodating appreciative guests from around the world for over ten years.More

As previous reviewers have said, this is not a place to stay if you are looking for an ultra-modern holiday let. We chose Rose Cottage to give our two children a taste of an authentic Tudor cottage. The hamlet is beautiful and had its own...More

Thank you for this most thoughtful review. Yes, a 400-year old cottage is what it is! It is only in the past 30 years or so that it has had a bathroom of any sort! We would only add that as we show on the...More

Really close to a number of attractions, gorgeous building with all the cosiness and character you could wish for from a building of this age.

Beautiful cottage, immaculately clean. Lovely to stay in such a quaint cottage for the weekend. Very good position to visit the historic sites. Would definitely recommend.
