Dating from the late 1800's and recently renovated The Down House Cottage nestles in the leafy village of Shawford, right on the edge of the National South Downs Park. Less than 3 miles from the historic heart of Winchester. The river Itchen flows through the village and it is possible to follow it's path right to the High Street within 45 minutes. The Down House Cottage, which adjoins our family home, has a private entrance leading you directly into a small kitchen equipped for light catering and complete with cooker, fridge, washing machine. The sitting room has a flatscreen TV plus DVD player. There is free Wi-Fi. Upstairs the bathroom features a large, walk-in shower. The dual aspect bedroom has a king-size bed. There is a small outside courtyard area perfect for al fresco breakfasts. Shawford has superb connections with it's own mainline railway station (Winchester 4 mins, London 65 mins, South Coast approx 30 mins). There is a local pub offering traditional 'pub-grub' and with a good beer garden, in the adjoining village of Twyford there is the acclaimed Bugle - voted the best restaurant in Winchester. The Down House Cottage is attached to our family home, it has it's own separate, private entrance. Our family has two friendly Labradors plus a cat and is a non-smoking premises. More

Getting around
A car is not strictly necessary - Shawford has it's own station which is less than five minutes walk away. There are buses that run along the main road (also 5 mins. walk away) every 20 minutes either into Winchester or the opposite direction to Southampton. There are some very nice pubs within walking distance, a village store in the neighbouring village of Twyford (15 minutes walking). Winchester is walkable within 45 minutes.
