Completely renovated in 2012, so if you're searching Google street view, the pics are before the renovation and do not do it justice. A little more about the immediate area: The Rooms: St. John's Museum and Art Gallery offers panoramic vistas of St. John's and its harbour, a multi-level atrium serves as both a gathering place and space for constantly changing exhibits and events. The Rooms has a cafe with local foods and the best view in town! It's one of my favorite breakfast and lunch spots. The Georgetown Bakery is the best bakery in town, offering fresh breads and a few choice pastries. Best baguette for that cheese tray spread and, if you get there early enough, the chocolate croissants are a real treat. Directly across from the bakery is a lovely small coffee shop. Across the way is the Grand Basilica Cathedral built in the 1800's. The famous ----- sculpture of the Madonna is in the small park behind the convent next door. Bannerman Park: Home of the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival and many other events throughout the year. New Community pool / splash park and in the wintertime it has a skating oval. Great spot for a walk, picnic, or just hanging out. Quidi Vidi lake is 15-20 minutes walk. You walk through Georgetown then you can get on the Rennies Mill River Walking Trail that takes you to the Memorial Dominion grocery store and then to the lake. More
