About the neighbourhood
Macerino is a small and ancient village, 12 kilometres from Acquasparta and 15 from Spoleto which conserves the medieval charm with its narrow alleys. We can find historical information about Macerino dating to 1093 A.C. . The castle was built with the particular form of extended rectangle and in every angle there was a solid tower. This fort was built for residential purposes. It is immersed in a green vast forest where you can walk, with Macerino as part of Monti Martani Trekking route. There are two neighbourhood Restaurants where they serve authentic Umbrian food, for example truffles, pasta, meat of wild boar, cured pork meats.
How to get there
Fly to Rome, airport of Fiumicino ( Leonardo da Vinci ) or Ciampino. Here you can rent a car or take the train ( Ancona line ) and get off in Terni where you can take a taxi or rent a car. Macerino is just one hour and 30 mins drive from Rome and 30 mins from Terni. By Ryanair you can fly to Perugia from Stansted airport in London and drive to Macerino which takes about 50 minutes. Other low-cost options are flying to Ancona, Pescara and Pisa ( about two hours drive ).
