About the neighbourhood
Misty Valley Cottage is so named as some mornings a mist lies over the valley of the river Team close by. The Cottage is almost centre point for the 3 local cities, Newcastle 8 miles, Durham 9 miles and Sunderland 10 miles. The walled city of Newcastle really has a Castle and two cathedrals. There is a seasonal hop on hop off bus, bike hire and guided walks to help you get to know the city and its secrets. The cottage is very close to The Angel of the North (within 2 mile), Beamish Museum (within 6 mile) and Durham Emirates Cricket Ground (within 4 mile). Further away is Kielder reservoir, forest and the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. Along with the UNESSO 80 miles of Hadrians Wall and its forts of Binchester and Vindolanda.
Getting around
By car: The Cottage is just off the A167, which used to be the A1. The A167 meets the A1 at junction 63 and junction 66, so its easy to travel north or south from here. The A19 is the other major road and can be accessed at a couple of points locally. By bus:The green Angel 21 bus pass up to every 7 minutes during the day time until approx. 23.00. There is the 'Go North East App' for live times. Friday and Saturday evenings the 21 runs an hourly service through the night. North it will take you to Gateshead Metro station & Newcastle. South it will take you to Chester-Le-Street & Durham. The service to Durham is at most every 15 minutes. Use the 28/28A for Beamish Museum from the war memorial Birtley.
