Open all year. 'Special' events for Halloween, Christmas, New Year and Valentines Day - ask for details. A traditional authentic Gypsy Vardo (bow-top caravan) and the life-style that goes with it is yours! Gypsy Rose has come to rest in our ancient apple orchard, next to the brook and overlooking a waterfall. To watch the fish jumping, the heron fishing, or if you're lucky maybe catch a glimpse of a kingfisher or otter all you have to do is sit up in bed and open the window - Nature comes to you, right outside! And with 43 square miles of Forest on your doorstep, teeming with wildlife from deer and wild boar to badgers and buzzards, it's a wildlife watcher's dream come true! There are lots of lovely walks with the Forest to the west and the Severn Estuary to the east. Hire a bike, or hop on a bus - the bus-stop is 300 yds down the road! There is only one Gypsy Rose; with no neighbours nearby and in a corner of our large garden, screened by apple trees and shrubs our guests enjoy the peace, quiet and seclusion of their own garden and outdoor kitchen area. Step back in time... cooking is over an open fire, forage for food in the Forest or just PYO fruit and veg from the kitchen garden and collect eggs from our hens and ducks. Light comes from lanterns, heat from the fire. This is the real deal gypsy wagon living in a beautiful location. If it looks familiar it might be because it has been used in film locations and photo-shoots for period dramas, fashion and advertising. We give you some home comforts - fresh bread from the farmhouse kitchen each morning, a flushing lavatory on the mains sewer (no chemical or composting loos here!), a pretty wash-stand and luxury toiletries and fluffy towels. Shower/bath available only if our holiday let is vacant during your stay; this is authentic gypsy wagon living; you'll be heating water in a kettle over the fire, or just jumping into the waterfall for a really refreshing 'shower'! You'll have a hamper to welcome you, with best local bacon and sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms and eggs, and with our fresh bread basket, breakfast is sorted! You'll find tea and coffee in the cupboard, and we'll give you a pint of milk and a Farmhouse cake to start you off... after that it's Over to You! Gypsy Rose is cosy in cooler months and a delight in summer when you can spend the long evenings sitting outside by the fire, being serenaded by owls and watching the stars go by... In winter a little Queenie stove keeps the van toasty-warm. Bring a book, learn to knit or crochet, do a bit of that painting you've always wanted to try, or make a start on that novel...This is a real retreat; no electricity, no TV, no DVDs, we're not sure if WiFi reaches that far (it is available near the house) or if you can get a mobile phone signal easily at Gypsy Rose. Its ideal for anyone who wants to 'disappear from the radar' for a day or two. Rural, not remote, its a 10 minute stroll down country lanes to the village pub, shop, chippy and restaurant. And just 4 miles to the nearest supermarket, ATM and mainline station. No trekking off into the wilderness - we're a 3 hour drive from London, just 90 minutes from central Birmingham and about an hour from Cardiff, Bristol and Worcester in the beautiful Forest of Dean. Happy Glamping! NB Please read booking conditions carefully. Regrettably, due to the behaviour of some guests at Gypsy Rose, we now have to impose a deposit against damage and a cleaning fee, both returnable if the property and site are left clean, tidy and complete on your departure. There is NO ELECTRICITY, NO HOT WATER SUPPLY. If you don't like basic camping, living and cooking outside alongside wildlife, don't come! You will have: 1 bag of logs (more can be purchased from the owner), sticks, firelighters & charcoal; a hamper including milk, tea, coffee & breakfast ingredients; bedding, towels, candles for lanterns, basic cooking equipment, cleaning equipment. ***Want a bathroom, kitchen & electricity?*** Take a look at my other listing for The Apple Store at Maytree and ask for a quote for the use of the apartment and Gypsy Rose! Interaction with guests
You will be met upon arrival and shown to Gypsy Rose. I am almost always on site and available to help, give information or directions to nearby places of interest, and can be contacted by phone or at the farmhouse. This is a quiet valley with private cottages nearby, so no loud music please, and be aware - you do have neighbours who can hear you (its a valley - your sound echoes!) Our guests report everyone is friendly is helpful; you can be as secluded as you want, or enjoy the company of whoever is around - it's up to you!
