Our family has been holidaying at 'Westdene' for three generations and it just gets better every year! Whatever time you choose to visit this unique part of Suffolk, there is a never ending list of things to do.
For families there's our huge garden and all the attractions of Thorpeness are within walking distance; the Meare, where you can hire boats and explore the many islands, the Windmill, House in the Clouds, tennis courts at the Country Club and of course the beach.
The Golf Club with its challenging 18-hole course is nearby, as is the Dolphin Pub which has a garden and offers great food.
Two miles away is beautiful Aldeburgh, packed with excellent restaurants, shops and the best fish and chips in Suffolk!

This is a great family friendly cottage, suitable for all ages. The cottage is very well equipped with a large garden. The beach is just a stroll away. The village has plenty of walks and a welcoming pub serving great food. We spent a lovely weekend and will definitely visit again.

Great house in a fabulous location. Such a stunning village with its own special history and architecture. Short walk to pub with great restaurant, shops, tennis courts and seaside. Loads to see in nearby vicinity. House roomy, comfortable and well furnished with all those kitchen essentials. Will definitely be back.

A great home from home stay in a fabulous location. Great local amenities and superb places to visit but it's also best returning to Westdene.

About the neighbourhood
So much to do for young and old in this unique and beautiful village. There's the boating lake, where you can hire punts, small sailing dinghies, rowing boats and canoes or kayaks; the challenging local golf club; tennis; the Dolphin Inn, with garden and great food; the stunning beach; nearby Aldeburgh, packed with great shops and restaurants and the best fish and chips; this area is also famous for bird-watching - but I don't know much about this subject - sorry. At the house we have dvd and book library, board games, table tennis, football goal and the open fire to curl up in front of.

Ferry: Harwich: 80.0 km
From the M25 take exit 28 towards A12 Chelmsford East; after about 52 miles you will come to a roundabout, take the third exit towards Felixstowe, A14 E, then follow signs to Lowestoft (A12), until you come to a right hand sign to the A1094, Aldeburgh, take this turning and then you will come across a left hand sign to Thorpeness, take this and all signs to Thorpeness. As you come into the village you will pass a pub, The Dolphin, on your left, take the first left (up an unmade road) after the pub and you will be on Westgate, our house is on the RHS - enjoy!
