About the neighbourhood
Situated at the foot of the Blackdown Hills, near Ilminster, we are within easy reach of the Somerset Levels and Glastonbury, Dorset’s Jurassic Coast and Lyme Regis, Exmoor, Dartmoor and the North Devon Coast.
On the Estate, why not explore with one of our guided walks by arrangement including campfire coffee or tea, ranging from 1km to 10km. Walk in woodland enjoying the bluebells in April/May or discover our Apple blossom/Cider trail around the orchards on the Estate in the Spring/Autumn. With plenty of hedgerows why not pick some blackberries to take home? Find the Walled garden on the site of the old Mansion House. Pick your way through the woods to find the old Chard Branch Line railway.
Off the Estate there is plenty to do locally. The Somerset levels are easily accessible and great for cycling.
The Blackdown Hills are visible from the window and offer more opportunity for exploring this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty via the 30km long Here Path Trail through Forestry Commission woodland.
The Market Town of Ilminster is 2 miles away, with Market day each Thursday it also offers many independent shops including the award-winning butchers; Bonners.
West country cheeses can be found at Silver Street Dairy and seasonal fruit and vegetables at Mike’s Greengrocers.
Nearby in the village of Dowlish Wake is Perry’s Cider Mill.
And near the village of Hambridge is the Somerset Cider Brandy Company and the Forrest and Brown
