Having recently moved to the area we are beginning the assessment of the many and varied cafes, wineries and restaurants. First up, Hygge. We had driven nearby but this was our first stop in for a bite to eat.
Arrived for breakfast at about 9ish to find a good number of people eating there already. We ordered and sat at a table near the fire (which was going due to it being a bit of a cold day!) overlooking the garden and sea beyond. The food arrived quickly and the staff were friendly and seemed to really enjoy their job which is always pleasing! The breakfasts were delicious (hubby having The a big Hygge and myself with the Ricotta Pancakes). Great size meals and very tasty. The cabinet food also looked very tasty if you wanted to grab something to go.
We will definitely be returning to check out the lunch menu and are sure that we won’t be disappointed!

Looking for the Gannets, realised we would have to go on a tour (time was too short) so drove down the road and there was this sign Hygge at Clifton Bay Te Awanga.
Not sure if it was a café but was greeted by the owner who was in the garden with assurance to just go in. Well what a great find. Choose Bacon and eggs (also had to have some goodies). Meal was well presented and as it was only about 9.30am there was a lot of people there. So much room for big or little groups and the sea makes a beautiful view.

Toward end of Clifton rd, it has a nice setting overlooking the Bay & with play area for kids. Although coffee was nice & scones large, I felt higher prices wouldn't tempt me to go again as there's not much else out there.

Hint of Denmark/Sweden in the choice of food & new owners.
Fresh, light & good menu to suit most people. Lovely ocean outlook, definitely worth a visit.
