Staying in the tower at Gensac was a once in a lifetime experience. The novelty of the tower with its four levels (including rooftop balcony) was so different to the usual box room. The beautiful surroundings are awesome and the quaint village of Gensac offers everything needed. Mark and Fiona were also excellent hosts.

“Blown away!”

This former windmill is a fantastically unique place to stay and is very highly recommended. It has been tastefully and carefully restored throughout, including an excellent (fully stocked) kitchen.

Fiona and Mark were lovely and very welcoming hosts. Thoughtful touches included stocking the fridge with milk, OJ, fresh eggs and a whole heap of other staples like tea, coffee and even muesli. They've also put together a very comprehensive binder with lots of info about the local area including nearby services, restaurants and wineries. (Our favourite tips were Chez Sylvie and La Table Rouge; both meals to die for!)

Location was perfect; very secluded but just on the edge of Gensac, a lovely little town with a great set of shops (bakery, butcher and supermarket). Easy to get to from Bordeaux and a short drive to a range of different sights and activities, including the gorgeous town of Saint Emilion.

Would definitely return and recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway in the beautiful Bordeaux countryside, with a fun twist!

“We have had a great time at Gensac Tower!”
Reviewed 24 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

This great residence is a former windmill and watchtower that is very romantically situated on a hill overlooking the astonishing surroundings of Gensac. On the inside it has been fully restored, keeping authentic details intact. Outside you can choose to sit either in your private garden or on top of the tower.

The living space is not very big, but very clean and comfortable. It has all facilities you need during your relaxing holiday, including a BBQ, dishwasher and Wifi. Fiona and Marc have been very helpful in advising the best places to visit and local wines to drink. We highly recommend this place and already look forward to visiting this great place again.

“It was an absolute delight to stay at Gensac Tower!”
Reviewed 27 June 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Gensac Tower, originally a windmill and then a watchtower during the war, has been painstakingly converted into a beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable home-away-from-home, incorporating every creature comfort we could think of in a stunning and unusual property. We adored the way that the round sandstone walls and stairs give way to delightful picture-windows with views of the garden and surrounding area. We also enjoyed taking in the amazing 360 degree view from the roof of the tower - a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a glass or two of rose in the sun!

Aside from being truly delightful accommodation, Gensac Tower is close to Gensac town and a great base to explore the surrounding areas, like St Emillion. Gensac town is lovely – we enjoyed walking through the pretty streets, lunch at one of the sweet little restaurants by the main square and, although somewhat less romantic, pleased to find an ATM and a supermarket, which allowed us to stock our very well appointed kitchen.

Another of Gensac Tower's draw-cards are its lovely hosts, Fiona and Mark, who struck the perfect balance between being welcoming and available on the one hand and giving us space to enjoy the delightful property that they have built themselves on the other.

Overall, we had a wonderfully peaceful and relaxing stay at Gensac Tower and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends, family and colleagues.
